Senior Data Scientist – Smart Grids, AI & Customer Experience

A rapidly growing technology company is transforming the energy sector by developing innovative software solutions. Their platforms rapidly detect network faults, assisting them to deliver safer and more sustainable electricity.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Scientist with strong Java development skills to join our Customer Features and Analytics Development Team, in a full-time capacity.

This is a rare opportunity to work on mission-critical analytics for the electricity sector — applying AI and LLMs not only to operational time series data, but also to enhance customer engagement and improve product usability. You will collaborate across software engineering, DevOps, site reliability, business analysis, and presales to deliver analytics-driven features that directly shape customer experience.

The Benefits of Joining Us?

  • Competitive salary offer, commensurate with experience

  • Flexible work options including Work from Home or from a Melbourne office, based on your preference

  • Lead innovative AI applications in the energy sector — from operational insights to customer experience

  • Work in a cross-functional and high-impact role
  • Be part of a collaborative and expert team shaping the future of energy analytics

Your Responsibilities:

  • Develop and productionise machine learning and AI models for time series datasets from smart meters and grid monitoring systems
  • Apply AI to personalise customer experiences, improve usability, and optimise workflows
  • Build analytics features in Java, with Python used for rapid prototyping and specialised analysis
  • Integrate analytics into our cloud-native, Kubernetes-based platform
  • Collaborate across engineering, delivery, and presales to deliver high-value, customer-focused solutions
  • Design and maintain scalable data pipelines to support analytics and ML model deployment
  • Evaluate and benchmark new AI/ML techniques (including LLMs) to ensure the best fit for operational and customer-facing applications

What You Will Bring:

  • Strong Java development expertise (backend services, analytics integration)
  • Python experience desirable (for prototyping and specialised analysis)
  • Experience with time series datasets and machine learning methods
  • Track record of productionising ML models in real-world systems
  • Experience applying AI/LLMs to both operational analytics and customer-facing applications
  • Cloud platform (AWS/Azure/GCP) and Kubernetes experience
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Domain knowledge in smart grids/electricity metering (preferred)

If you are excited by the idea of applying AI to power grids, customer engagement, and product usability in a high-impact role, we would love to hear from you Click 'Apply' today
