Salary: From $75,702 + Super

W & L Family Farms is a large-scale agricultural company in Gooburrum, Queensland, growing and packing a variety of fresh produce including tomatoes, zucchinis, capsicums, and cherry tomatoes. Our produce is supplied to Coles, Woolworths, major fresh markets, and exported internationally. We are seeking a reliable and skilled Horticulture Grower to join our team and support our crop production and quality.

To be considered for this role you must have:

Certificate III or IV in Horticulture or related field is essential.

At least two years of relevant experience in the industry in similar position.

You must be an Australian Citizen/Permanent resident or have legal working rights in Australia.

Main tasks

1. Crop Planning and Production

  • Plan and manage production of crops such as tomatoes, zucchini, capsicum, snow peas, sugar snaps, rockmelon, watermelon, pumpkin, cucumber, gherkin and cherry tomatoes, considering seasonal, climate, and market conditions. Include variety selection and crop rotation to optimize yield and maintain soil health.
  • Develop planting schedules, monitor crop growth, and maintain production records.

2. Planting and Cultivation

  • Perform planting and maintain crop growth through irrigation, fertilization, and pruning, applying site-specific practices across multiple growing locations.
  • Apply cultivation practices to ensure optimal production across different crops and locations.

3. Pest, Disease, and Chemical Management

  • Identify and monitor pests and diseases, and implement integrated pest management practices.
  • Apply chemicals safely and maintain treatment records.

4. Harvesting and Post-Harvest Management

  • Plan and supervise harvesting to minimize crop loss and maintain quality.
  • Coordinate with packing teams for efficient post-harvest handling for domestic and export markets.

5. Team Coordination, Farm Operations, and Budget Discussions

  • Supervise and train farm staff, organize daily operations, and ensure compliance with work health and safety processes.
  • Maintain farm property, including equipment, buildings, fences, and water supply systems.
  • Participate in discussions with Farm Directors, Principals, and General Managers regarding budgeting and resource allocation.

Preferred Skills

Horticultural knowledge – Crop production, cultivation, pest and disease management, and harvesting

Farm operations and team management – Supervise staff, maintain equipment and property, ensure WHS compliance.

Planning and analytical skills – Evaluate records, plan crop rotations and variety selection, monitor market activity.
