Primary objective
The senior teacher will assist in developing and leading the implementation of initiatives/strategies/programs that address
attendance, enrolment and community engagement at the College. Develop and sustain strong relationships and levels of
communication between the school and the community, lead a team of teachers and support staff to build, implement, evaluate
and adjust a range of programs and approaches to engage students in learning. Work as a member of the leadership team to drive
school improvement and implement school-wide practices.
Context statement
Maningrida College is located in one of the largest Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory, 550 kms east of Darwin.
Maningrida College offers education to approximately 660 students from age 0 to senior years as well as proving education services
to up to 15 Homeland Learning Centres. The College incorporates an Indigenous Languages and Culture Centre, Learning on
Country Program, Trade Training Centre, Child and Family Centre and Families as First Teachers program. The College Engagement
Senior teacher has a crucial role in improving school attendance and student and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead, manage and promote the development of strategies and programs within Maningrida College to achieve the school and
Department's goals and targets in relation to college attendance, engagement and student retention.
- Assist the college and community in developing and implementing targeted and the localised whole of community approaches
to improving community engagement at the school.
3. Facilitate the implementation of a range of programs and initiatives relating to school enrolment, attendance and retention,
including gaining the involvement of critical stakeholders in the process
4. Manage a small attendance and engagement team located at the College including capacity building and coaching of staff
5. Work with other Senior Teachers, Assistant Principals, and Principal to drive the development of education and school
priorities as outlined in the ASIP at the College.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to consult, collaborate and negotiate effectively and establish and achieve ongoing commitment to
agreed outcomes amongst stakeholders in a remote community.
- Demonstrated ability to use strategic, conceptual, analytical and creative skills to identify and develop innovative strategies
and projects suited to a complex and changing environment.
3. Proven ability to build the capacity of self, others and high performing teams through high level coaching and/or mentoring
around school-wide positive behaviour, trauma-informed pedagogy, and the use of student data to inform teaching and
learning
- Demonstrated effective leadership in a remote school setting, ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines in a
dynamic school environment to implement school based and system wide policies and procedures.
- Effective, clear and respectful interpersonal, written and oral communication skills with colleagues and students within a
remote school setting which ensures staff teams and students feel supported.

The successful applicant must hold full Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory (TRB). Current
NT Working with Children Notice (Ochre Card), NLC Permits and Drivers licence or the ability to obtain prior to commencement.
