About the role

The Corporate Affairs Manager plays a pivotal role in advancing Avant's advocacy and communications agenda. This dynamic and strategic position requires an experienced communicator who can thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

You will lead proactive corporate affairs initiatives, driving strategic communications across media, government, members, and key stakeholders to strengthen Avant's reputation and support our broader organisational goals.

Key responsibilities:

1. Strategic Communications

• Develop and execute communication strategies that support Avant's advocacy objectives.
• Craft clear, compelling, and accessible messages that translate complex policy and health issues for diverse audiences.

• Lead issues management and reputation risk mitigation strategies.

• Media Relations

• Build and maintain strong relationships with trade and health media to ensure accurate and positive coverage of Avant's advocacy and policy positions.

• Prepare media materials including press releases, briefing notes, op-eds, speeches, and talking points.

• Serve as a spokesperson for Avant when required.

• Stakeholder Engagement

• Foster effective communication and collaboration between Avant and key stakeholders to align and advance shared priorities.

• Partner with the GM Public Affairs and Sustainability to map, engage, and maintain strong relationships with government, industry, and sector organisations.

• Advocacy and Policy

• Identify opportunities to advance Avant's advocacy agenda through strategic communication and engagement.

• Collaborate with internal teams to develop policy positions and advocacy materials.

• Monitor and analyse policy developments and legislative changes impacting the health sector.

• Content Development

• Produce high-quality, engaging written content for multiple channels, including media, newsletters, and digital platforms.

• Ensure consistency of messaging and tone across all communication materials.

Experience and Qualifications required:

• Minimum of 7 years' experience in corporate affairs, communications, or a political/policy environment.
• Experience in the health sector, either in communications, ministerial, or policy roles (highly advantageous).
• Proven ability to manage both traditional and digital media relationships and channels.
• Exceptional writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts.
• Strong strategic thinking and sound judgment.
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
• Highly organised, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Proactive, innovative, and outcome-focused communicator.
