Where you'll be working
Located in the beautiful Northern Tablelands of New South Wales, Inverell is a vibrant rural community known for its friendly atmosphere, rich history, and stunning natural surroundings. The region is surrounded by national parks, rivers, and scenic landscapes, making it ideal for those who enjoy the outdoors. As a regional hub, Inverell provides the perfect balance of country charm and modern convenience, while also offering rewarding opportunities for health professionals looking to make a real impact in rural communities.
What You'll Be Doing
We are seeking an innovative, skilled, and committed Social Worker, Psychologist, or Counsellor to join the Violence, Abuse, and Neglect (VAN) team based at Inverell Community Health Centre. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families impacted by violence, abuse, and neglect across several rural communities in Northern NSW.
As part of this role, you will contribute to the delivery of the NSW Health Sexual Assault and Child Protection Counselling Services. Your work will extend across Inverell, Tingha, Glen Innes, Warialda, Ashford, and Tenterfield, engaging with clients in need of support and therapeutic care. You will conduct psycho-social assessments, develop and coordinate case plans tailored to individual client needs, and work closely with other services to ensure holistic care and intervention.
You will receive strong support and guidance in this role, including access to ongoing training and supervision. The position is backed by the Inverell Community Health Manager, the Clinical Co-ordinator for the VAN team, and the Aboriginal Family Wellbeing and Violence Prevention Network. Regular clinical and cultural supervision will be provided, and you will have strong connections with professional peers in similar roles across the district.
About You
Your work will require a professional approach to clinical assessment and client management, while applying evidence-based practice to address a wide range of complex and emotionally challenging issues. You will be expected to participate in regular professional supervision, contribute to the ongoing development of your discipline's professional network, and engage in relevant education and training opportunities to maintain and grow your expertise.
The role demands a strong understanding of the impact of violence, abuse, and neglect on children, young people, families, and communities. You will be expected to demonstrate resilience and self-awareness, particularly in managing the emotional demands and vicarious trauma associated with this work in a rural setting. Strong communication skills—both written and verbal—are essential, along with the ability to build rapport with clients and engage effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Your ability to prioritise, manage time, and respond to competing clinical demands will be key to success in this role.
This is a meaningful and challenging opportunity for a dedicated clinician who is ready to contribute to improving safety, wellbeing, and recovery for vulnerable individuals and families in our rural communities.
