Mareeba Shire Council is a high-performing, community-focussed organisation with over 200 dedicated staff. Our recent budget was praised in the media for its considered and sensible approach, demonstrating our commitment to financial responsibility and community investment. This is a unique opportunity to join a well-regarded council making a real impact across the region.

The role

As a key member of our Facilities team, the Facilities Tradesperson is responsible for completing day-to-day maintenance activities for Council-owned buildings, facilities and other structures within the Shire. In this role, you will apply your trade knowledge and skills to complete a variety of reactive and planned maintenance activities and regular inspections to ensure that Council facilities remain in a safe and serviceable condition. Tiling, painting, plastering, joinery and minor renovations could all be in a day's work in this role.

What we are looking for

The ideal candidate will possess a combination of skills, knowledge and experience relevant to building maintenance and construction. We are looking for an individual who thrives in a team environment but is also capable of working autonomously.

  • You will have good knowledge and understanding of a range of building maintenance and construction procedures, including technical understanding of building plans and specifications, and the ability to use these skills to problem solve
  • You will be able to demonstrate your ability to work on a variety of building activities such as tiling, painting, plastering, joinery, floor coverings, flat-pack assembly, window and door locks, non-structural strip-outs and undertaking renovations to Council buildings and facilities
  • You will have sound oral and written communication skills
  • You will have an understanding of the engineering properties and selection of materials used for building maintenance and construction activities
  • You will be able to apply safe work practices including manual handling techniques, operating power tools and follow WHS procedures and policies

Essential qualifications for this role include a current Queensland C class driver's licence, current trade certification and a Queensland Construction Industry White Card.
