Role Description

  • Starting November
  • Temporary casual position open to secondary students who are 16 years of age and above, as well as high school graduates/university students
  • Varied hours during school holiday periods + potential for some After-School hours (2:30-5:30pm) during term.
  • Opportunity for a permanent STEAM Mentor role following Christmas Casual role

Looking for individuals who are passionate in STEM or a career in STEM and who are eager to work with young children (Kindergarten - Year 6). We're encouraging primary students to be creative problem solvers and creating a fun environment where they can learn future-ready skills.

As a mentor, you'll be travelling to NSW primary schools and out of school hours care centres, leading several STEM-based programs, including:

  • LEGO Robotics
  • Science - Chemical Experiments
  • Magnetic Tile Engineering
  • Hybrid programs combining 2 of the above programs

Note that one is not expected to deliver every program, as we're eager to work to your strengths. However, we will provide training and/or session plans for all programs and we are eager to provide the opportunity to learn new skills. Overall, you'll be providing fun yet educational activities, exploring the world of STEM. Strong communication skills and ability to engage and work with children is paramount

Responsibilities

  • Travel to various schools in the NSW region, primarily within and near the Hills District NSW region
  • Engage with students, open discussions on teamwork, any relevant theory or brainstorms
  • Manage equipment and check inventory
  • Communicate with and report to managers
  • Set strong examples and be a good role model, encouraging primary students to pursue their interests in STEM

Qualifications

Required

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • If above 18, working with children check - paid employee (can acquire after hiring)
  • Ability to drive, minimum P1 License, or ability to be driven

Desired but not mandatory

  • Studying or interested in studying a subject/degree within the STEM field
  • Relevant experience either in coding, science and/or engineering
  • Experience working with children as either a tutor or carer

Renumeration

  • $14-$35 hourly pay (based on experience and/or performance)
