We are looking for a dedicated SEWB Remote Community Mentor to lead community capacity-building projects that strengthen local responses to suicide and self-harm across East Arnhem Land. This role provides on-the-ground mentoring and guidance to SEWB Community Workers, empowering Yolŋu staff through training, support, and skill development. In addition, the position carries a small caseload within the Culture Care Connect program, delivering culturally safe suicide prevention and aftercare services that enhance community resilience and individual wellbeing. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator and collaborator who can engage with community members, stakeholders, and organisations to develop sustainable, community-led initiatives. Regular travel to remote communities is required.

- Competitive salary of $121,301 per annum + 12% superannuation

About Miwatj
Miwatj Health is an independent Aboriginal Community-Controlled Health Service. Established in 1992, we're committed to securing quality health care services across the East Arnhem and enabling Yolŋu powered community health and wellbeing. Miwatj provides culturally appropriate, comprehensive primary health care to over 6,000 remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents across 3 East Arnhem wards. With a Head Office in Nhulunbuy, Miwatj also manages a Corporate Office in Darwin, 7 fixed clinics across the East Arnhem region, and dedicated outreach teams who travel to 3 additional locations.
Essential Requirements
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal Community Control and self-determination, alongside a deep awareness of the issues faced by Yolŋu people living in remote settings. They will have the capacity to travel regularly to Zone 2 remote communities and the ability to drive a manual 4WD. Proven experience supervising or leading teams in remote Aboriginal communities is required, supported by relevant tertiary qualifications and significant experience mentoring Aboriginal staff. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills are essential, as is the ability to collaborate effectively to achieve outcomes. Candidates must also be proficient in computer systems, including Excel for data reporting, and actively contribute to quality improvement activities, demonstrating sound professional judgment when performing complex or critical tasks. Desirable attributes include the ability to speak a local Aboriginal language and/or an understanding of traditional kinship systems within the Miwatj region.
