Stroke Foundation is a national not-for-profit organisation committed to reducing the impact of stroke across Australia. We work alongside stroke survivors, carers, health professionals, government, and the broader community to prevent stroke, save lives and enhance recovery.
This role is 2 days (15.2 hours) per week and is fixed term from March 2026 until March 2027.
Overall purpose of the program:
This position is part of the Stroke Prevention, Research and Innovation (SPRI) division, which delivers a range of programs to improve the treatment, care and support of survivors of stroke, carers and families.
The StrokeLink Project Officer is part of the Evidence, Quality and Research (EQR) team and reports directly to the StrokeLink Manager. The EQR team develops and manages stroke programs aimed at empowering health professionals to reduce the gap between evidence-based stroke care and clinical practice and maximise patient outcomes.
In Tasmania specifically, there is a need for greater attention and resourcing to support stroke survivors and their families/carers across the continuum of care. This role will support the development and/or improvement of stroke protocols and processes that ensure optimal stroke care is delivered in Tasmania, and that services are eligible to become certified stroke units.
Ideally, you are currently working within one of Tasmania's stroke capable hospitals and have a strong interest in improving stroke care processes and outcomes for stroke survivors and a sound understanding of stroke unit care and evidence-based improvement initiatives.
Overall purpose of position:
Reporting to the StrokeLink Manager and working closely with the Tasmanian StrokeLink Coordinator and Tasmanian Stroke Network, with a particular focus on formalising the stroke protocols for stroke capable hospitals and services in Tasmania.
Key responsibilities include:
- Contribute positively to the team environment by demonstrating Stroke Foundation values.
- Engage with health professionals across acute and rehabilitation stroke services.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (National Manager Evidence, Quality and Research, StrokeLink Manager and TAS StrokeLink Coordinator) and external partners (Clinical Stroke network, health departments, hospital leads, site champions, researchers, and the Tasmanian AuSCR Coordinator).
- Facilitate state-wide improvement initiatives in stroke services.
- Represent Stroke Foundation at forums, conferences, events, and network meetings (state travel may be required).
- Assist with state-based service delivery and reporting requirements.
- Maintain timely communication with the manager regarding any concerns.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in nursing or relevant allied health disciplines (e.g., social work, clinical psychology, speech pathology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, dietetics is essential).
- Current employment in a Tasmanian stroke-capable hospital.
- Demonstrated experience in collaborative quality improvement initiatives.
- Proven ability to develop, implement, and evaluate quality improvement projects with attention to detail.
- Strong understanding of clinical stroke treatment and care, including familiarity with the Living Clinical Guidelines for Stroke Management (desirable).
- Understanding of the Tasmanian health system.
- Strong relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in patient-centred communication techniques.
- Ability to work collaboratively within and across internal teams.
- Understanding of AuSCR data collection and its application in project work is advantageous.
- Proficient in Microsoft O365 including Teams, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
