PoM is committed to ensuring its infrastructure management operations are sustainable, responsible and fit for purpose to support the ongoing and growing Port of Melbourne.

ABOUT THE ROLE

A great opportunity has arisen for a lawyer to join PoM's Legal Services team as Legal Counsel. The role will work closely with the Senior Legal Counsels and General Counsel & Company Secretary across a broad range of legal matters including construction work.

You will be joining a business of approximately 160 staff with regular engagement and reporting to members of the Executive Leadership Team, including the CEO.

What you will be doing:

Your role within Legal Services will be end to end, starting with close commercial involvement, through to negotiations, preparation of Board papers and implementation of initiatives. In addition to construction law matters, the role will also involve:

  • advice on the privatisation Transaction Documents governing PoM's concession from the Government to operate the Port of Melbourne
  • advise the business on appropriate procurement and probity practices including review and advice regarding Expression of Interests, Tenders and Request for Quotes
  • general commercial and contractual work including consultant and other services engagements
  • advising on PoM's corporate and financing structure, and the regulatory environment; and
  • business transition projects, including compliance, precedents and policy reviews.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Minimum of 2 years of post-qualification working experience, including Construction, Projects and Commercial law matters. Construction law experience is essential
  • Superior interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to contribute to strategic discussions
  • Ability to identify key risks, highlight issues and provide solutions
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, with the capacity to influence
  • Ability to provide legal advice and assistance to internal clients in a timely and commercially astute manner
  • A team player with a continuous improvement approach
