Safety & Quality Coordinator (HSEQ / WHS)
Full-time Safety & Quality (HSEQ) role with a Best-in-Class industrial maintenance business. Strong systems already in place, direct access to leadership, and a genuine long-term career opportunity.
Suited to safety professionals from heavy industry, maintenance, construction, or engineering backgrounds.
This Illawarra-based business is a specialist inspection and maintenance services provider, delivering complex work at heights and in confined spaces for some of Australia's leading organisations across steel, mining, manufacturing, civil infrastructure, and government assets.
The company is widely recognised as Best-in-Class, known for:
- A practical, site-led safety culture
- High technical standards in high-risk environments
- Strong investment in people, training, and systems
With custom-built training facilities and an established ISO-certified Integrated Management System (9001, 14001, 45001), the business employs 20 permanent staff, scaling to 50–60 personnel during peak project activity. It is a stable, growing organisation with an excellent industry reputation.
The RoleAs Safety & Quality Coordinator (HSEQ), you'll work closely with the leadership team, supervisors, and site technicians, coordinating and continuously improving safety, quality, and environmental systems across the business.
The role has been deliberately designed to suit a range of experience levels:
- A step up for an early-to-mid career HSEQ professional
- Or a hands-on, influential position for a more experienced practitioner who prefers to stay close to operations
This is not a purely administrative role. You'll be visible in the business, involved in decision-making, and trusted to help shape how safety and quality are delivered on site.
Key ResponsibilitiesYour responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating WHS / HSEQ compliance, including safety, quality, and environmental requirements
- Maintaining and improving the ISO-certified Integrated Management System, and IRATA (Rope Access) Accreditation.
- Supporting risk assessments, SWMS, procedures, and operational documentation
- Delivering practical safety and quality training, toolbox talks, and site support
- Managing incident reporting, investigations, and corrective actions
- Monitoring and reporting on HSEQ performance and continuous improvement initiatives
- Preparing for and supporting ISO and IRATA audits
- Working collaboratively with site teams to ensure systems are practical and effective
You are already working in a Safety, WHS, or HSEQ role, ideally within:
- Heavy industrial maintenance
- Construction or shutdown environments
- Manufacturing, mining, or engineering-led operations
You may bring:
- 3–5 years' experience in a safety / HSEQ role and be ready to step up
- Or more extensive HSEQ experience and be seeking a strong, well-run business
Your background likely includes:
- A trade or engineering foundation (mechanical, electrical, or similar)
- Strong working knowledge of WHS legislation and site application
- Experience working with ISO-based management systems
- The ability to communicate effectively with both trades and leadership
Qualifications & experience may include:
- Cert IV or tertiary qualification in Work Health & Safety (completed or in progress)
- Exposure to confined space, working at heights, rope access, or IRATA environments (advantageous but not essential)
- Full-time, permanent career opportunity
- Role scope aligned to your experience and capability
- Direct access to leadership and decision-makers
- Established HSEQ systems — not a rebuild
- Strong safety culture and long-term career opportunity
This is a role where safety and quality matter, and where your experience will be valued and developed.
Ready for a better safety & quality role?Apply now to join a respected Illawarra-based organisation and take the next step in your HSEQ / safety career — at a level that matches your experience.
