Crucial for this Role

We are specifically seeking a candidate with:

  • Formal accounting qualifications (e.g., CA, CPA, or equivalent).
  • Proven, hands-on experience in developing and implementing strategic lead indicators for performance management and future forecasting.

As a key member of our Board, you will:

  • Shape Strategy:
     Actively contribute to and influence WiT's overarching strategic direction, ensuring long-term sustainability and impactful growth.
  • Command Financial Stewardship:
     Provide robust financial oversight, safeguarding the organization's financial health, and ensuring transparent, insightful reporting.
  • Champion Governance:
     Take a leading role on our Audit and Risk Committee, embedding strong corporate governance, compliance, and proactive risk management frameworks.
  • Drive Performance:
     Utilize your expertise in lead indicators to help WiT anticipate trends, measure success effectively, and make data-driven strategic decisions.
  • Deliver Impact:
     Oversee organisational performance to ensure we not only meet but exceed our strategic objectives and operational outcomes, amplifying our support for women in technology.

The Strategic Financial Leader We're Looking For

Beyond the essential qualifications above, our ideal candidate will possess:

  • Significant senior-level experience in strategic finance and/or accountancy roles, showcasing broad business acumen and a visionary, forward-thinking approach.
  • A strong understanding of corporate governance principles, particularly as they apply to Audit and Risk Committee functions.
  • A genuine passion for, or background in, the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) sectors.
  • Highly regarded: Previous experience as a Non-Executive Director, Treasurer, or member of a Funding or Audit and Risk Committee. Experience with not-for-profit finances, particularly for events or membership models, is also a plus.

Your Valued Contribution & Commitment

This rewarding voluntary role requires your active participation and strategic insight. Expect a commitment of approximately 10-12 hours per month. This includes dedicated preparation for and attendance at Board meetings (a flexible blend of virtual and in-person sessions), energetic participation in Audit and Risk Committee meetings, and proactive engagement in other pivotal organisational activities and strategic discussions. Provide the Board with monthly financial reporting, lead annual audit activities, and ensure financial process are adequate to ensure Board oversight.
