Deputy Managing Lawyer

• Full time ongoing position (part-time considered)
• Salary range: $110,357 - $127,333 (pro rata) plus super plus salary packaging
• Up to $15,900 in salary packaging and hybrid WFH & office model
• Relocation support available

About the roleAs a Deputy Managing Lawyer, you will use your experience to contribute to the Goulburn north-east community. Reporting to the Regional Manager, this role involves day-to-day operations of legal staff, including rostering, advocacy, and mentoring. The Deputy Managing Lawyer will serve as a senior lawyer, managing complex casework, primarily in criminal law, while also leading the development and training of lawyers with support from the Regional Manager contributing to a supportive and dynamic legal aid environment.

This role is based at our Shepparton office on Yorta Yorta and Bangerang Country.

About youAs our ideal candidate, you will possess:

• A current Australian practising certificate which entitles you to practise in Victoria as a government legal practitioner (mandatory).
• Proven ability in people management and leadership, fostering team development and motivation.
• Extensive legal practice experience, primarily in criminal law, with a track record of handling complex cases effectively.
• Strong interpersonal skills enabling effective communication with diverse stakeholders, including disadvantaged clients.
• Proven capacity to identify regional legal and policy issues, contributing to effective responses aligned with organisational strategies.
• Commitment to collaborative work and cultivating a supportive team environment, promoting cooperation and teamwork.
• Flexibility to travel as needed between Cobram, Benalla, and Seymour to provide service delivery.
