Altona Victoria, Australia Hays | Insurance Full time $60,000 - $90,000 per year

Your new company

Our client is a well-established name in the general insurance industry, known for delivering reliable and customer-focused insurance solutions across Australia. The business is committed to improving its operations through technology and innovation, and works closely with a number of trusted partner brands. With a strong presence locally and growing international connections, the company promotes a collaborative and inclusive work culture, where staff are supported in their professional development. This role is based in the office, with occasional travel required to assess damaged vehicles at external sites.

Your new role

As a Motor Vehicle Assessor, you'll play a key role in helping customers get back on the road after an accident. You'll be responsible for inspecting damaged vehicles, deciding on the best and safest way to repair them, and making sure the costs are fair and in line with company policies. You'll work closely with repairers, customers, and internal teams to ensure the process runs smoothly and efficiently.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assessing vehicle damage accurately and recommending safe, cost-effective repair methods.
  • Providing clear and helpful communication to customers, both over the phone and in person.
  • Making sure all assessments follow insurance policy terms and claims procedures.
  • Writing detailed reports and negotiating repair costs with repairers.
  • Managing repair disputes and supporting cost recovery efforts when needed.
  • Working with other assessors to solve complex repair issues.
  • Helping to reduce repair turnaround times and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Carrying out assessments both digitally and in person, depending on the situation.

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered for this role, you should have:

  • Hands-on experience in the motor repair industry-such as working as a mechanic, panel beater, or spray painter.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to build trust with clients.
  • A basic understanding of insurance policies and claims processes, ideally from working in insurance or a related field.
  • A valid Victorian driving licence.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a larger team.

What you'll get in return

If successful, you'll receive a competitive salary and a range of benefits, including:

  • A competitive salary package + a fully maintained company vehicle, which can also be used for personal travel.
  • A technology package including a work phone and iPad.
  • Generous discounts on insurance products such as home and motor.
  • Annual leave with the option to purchase additional days.
  • Opportunities for career growth and professional development.
