Tax Supervisor
to join our dynamic public practice accounting firm. The role will initially be based in Cheltenham, with the potential to move to Mount Waverley mid next year.
This role suits a qualified accountant who thrives on reviewing and refining the work of others, ensuring technical accuracy, and mentoring junior staff.

Key Responsibilities Include

Client Management

  • Manage a portfolio of clients, providing expert tax advice and proactive planning.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Prepare and review income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, trusts, companies, and SMSFs.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, delivering exceptional service.
  • Work directly with Directors to assist with managing Self-Managed Super Funds (SMSFs), Trusts, and tax on property investments.

Review & Quality Assurance

  • Review work prepared by junior and intermediate staff for accuracy, compliance, and quality.
  • Provide constructive feedback and coaching to improve technical outcomes.
  • Ensure internal procedures are followed and contribute to process improvements.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
  • Manage team productivity and ensure accurate timesheet completion.
  • Escalate complex issues to Directors when appropriate.
  • Oversee workflow, compliance, and client service in association with Directors.

Technical & Strategic Contribution

  • Stay up to date with changes in tax legislation and identify tax-saving opportunities.
  • Contribute to firm-wide initiatives including business development, systems upgrades, and strategic planning.
  • SMSF Compliance Responsibilities, covering regulatory adherence, audit preparation, and trustee communication.

Requirements

  • Qualifications
    : Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or CA qualified
  • Experience
    : Minimum 4 years in Australian public practice, including 3 years in a supervisory or senior accountant role.
  • Technical Knowledge
    : Strong understanding of Australian tax legislation and compliance requirements. Strong technical knowledge of SMSF tax, structuring, strategies, compliance and regulatory obligations
  • Client-Facing Skills
    : Proven ability to manage a diverse client portfolio and deliver tax advice directly.
  • Leadership
    : Proven ability to lead and develop a team, with a strong focus on reviewing and elevating the quality of team members' work.
  • Software Proficiency
    : Experience with Xero Accounting and Xero Practice Manager is highly regarded.
  • Communication
    : Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical matters clearly.
