Project:InCapture Declaration of Storage Phase 2A – Proving up the Concepts in the Ronsard-Sable Complex

Location:Perth, Australia. Remote working positions but a level of time zone compatibility is important.

Task Summary:"Sugarbox" Migration Simulations

• To aid comparison of storage concepts, the project will investigate and compare risks associated with injectivity, pressure limited storage potential and an investigation into migration directions and rates.

• To investigate this across all four concepts, the project will generate injection simulations on simplistic but representative static models (or "sugarbox models") of the reservoir to understand injectivity, pressure-limitations and plume migration speed and direction. This is not a replacement of the detailed simulations that will be carried out in Phase 2B, rather it looks to provide an initial indication that the storage concepts are not unviable from the perspective of pressure limited storage and injectivity.

• This study will utilize the seismic interpretations and petrophysical and core data from wells, alongside the stratigraphic study to build simple static models. A selected range of scenarios (around 6-8 per concept) will then be tested in a Darcy-based reservoir simulation to model the injectivity, pressure and migration. Note that especially with migration, the levels of uncertainty are high so they only provide initial indications of CO2 flow rates and migration directions, but this will still give some indication as to when and which faults and legacy wells may be at risk of encountering CO2; this in turn would help comparisons of the storage concepts. Each concept has different levels of risk and uncertainty so the scenarios tested will be bespoke to each concept in an attempt to verify them from the critical factors that control their potential.

Experience: 10+ years (not essential if high quality candidate is available with less experience); CO2 storage experience preferred, but not essential.

Notes:This is not traditional reservoir engineering so it is critical to identify a candidate who is able to use the technology pragmatically and think outside the box to solve challenges. High quality communication skills are also required to ensure integrated working across a geographically distributed team and communicate results effectively to the customer.
