South Australia Police (SAPOL) is an innovative and inclusive agency committed to delivering high-quality policing services. SAPOL is now seeking a distinguished legal professional to assume the role of Legal Director, Office of the General Counsel.

A key leader within the Governance and Capability Service, the Legal Director will report to the Assistant Commissioner and play a pivotal role in shaping SAPOL's legal strategy and operational effectiveness. Ensuring the legal capability of SAPOL, the Legal Director will provide strategic legal advice to the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and wider Executive Leadership Team, oversee the legislative reform agenda, ensure SAPOL's disciplinary and anti-corruption systems are operating effectively and ensure continued access to legal advice, particularly during complex operations at a local, national and international scale.

Acting as a strategic advisor on multidisciplinary legal matters, the Legal Director will provide professional advice relating to police operations including substantive law and police powers, indemnity, insurance, risk management, HR, administrative decisions, information release, MOUs, commercial arrangements, coronial inquests and the Commissioner's enquiries.

This executive position demands a forward-thinking, results-oriented individual capable of delivering expert legal counsel and guiding the organisation through complex legal landscapes. A legal qualification, admission or eligibility for admission as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia and an unrestricted Practicing Certificate are essential, as is expertise in strategic legal planning, legislative reform and policy advisory. Exceptional executive-level communication skills, personal integrity, strong ethical standards and the ability to maintain confidentiality are further traits sought in the appointee.
