About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Vegetable Grower to join our team. This hands-on role involves planning, organising, coordinating, and performing farming and market garden operations to produce high-quality vegetables. You will oversee the entire crop cycle – from soil preparation and planting to harvesting and post-harvest handling – with a strong focus on sustainability, efficiency, and productivity.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Vegetable Grower, you will:
- Plan, organise, coordinate, and carry out farming, greenhouse, and market garden operations for vegetable production
- Select, prepare, and plant seeds, seedlings, bulbs, or grafted plants to establish crops.
- Monitor, maintain, and improve soil quality, irrigation systems, and growing conditions.
- Implement crop nutrition, pest, weed, and disease management programs.
- Cultivate, prune, thin, de-bud, and train plants to optimise health and yield.
- Manage irrigation and fertigation programs to meet crop growth requirements.
- Organise and supervise harvesting, grading, packaging, storage, and dispatch of produce.
- Maintain accurate farm production and business records including crop performance, costs, and sales.
- Supervise, train, and direct farm workers and contractors to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Assist with budgeting, resource allocation, and farm planning to achieve production and business goals.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- An AQF Bachelor degree or higher in Horticulture, Agriculture, or equivalent, or relevant practical experience.
- At least 1 year of hands-on experience in vegetable or horticultural production.
- Sound knowledge of horticultural practices, crop management, and market garden operations.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability in farm operations.
- Excellent organisational, record-keeping, and communication skills.
