Job responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
Shift Operations Management
Ensure safe, stable, and efficient operation of the ammonia plant during the shift.
- Monitor critical process parameters, troubleshoot deviations, and take corrective actions in real time.
- Coordinate with utilities, maintenance, and other plant units to ensure uninterrupted operations.
Ensure availability of manpower required for the safe and efficient operation of the unit.
Production & Performance Monitoring
Achieve daily production targets in line with quality and efficiency standards.
- Optimize process conditions to maximize throughput and reduce energy and raw material consumption.
Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to plant performance enhancement initiatives.
Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) Compliance
Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, work permits, and environmental guidelines.
- Conduct shift-wise safety audits, risk assessments, and toolbox talks.
Respond effectively to emergencies and lead incident investigations when required.
Team Leadership & Shift Supervision
Lead, guide, and supervise shift operators, field technicians, and control room personnel.
- Manage shift handovers, ensure proper communication, and maintain accurate shift logs and reports.
Provide on-the-job training and support skill development of junior staff.
Equipment Monitoring & Maintenance Coordination
Monitor equipment health and initiate preventive or corrective maintenance requests.
- Liaise with maintenance teams during shutdowns, startups, or emergency repairs.
Maintain equipment isolation, tagging, and de-tagging procedures in coordination with the maintenance department.
Reporting & Documentation
Prepare and submit shift performance reports, downtime logs, and incident records.
- Maintain accurate records of process parameters, consumables, and operating deviations.
Support audits and compliance checks by ensuring the availability and accuracy of operational data.
Emergency Preparedness
Act as the first response leader during plant upsets, trips, or hazardous situations.
- Ensure compliance with the plant's emergency response plan and conduct regular emergency drills.
Requirements:
Education & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Petrochemical Engineering, or equivalent.
- Additional certifications in safety or process operations (preferred).
Experience:
- 14 to 18 years of experience in ammonia plant operations (preferably with large-scale or integrated chemical complexes).
- At least 5 -7 years in a supervisory or shift leadership role.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of ammonia production processes (e.g., steam methane/AT reforming, air separation, synthesis loop).
- Familiarity with DCS (Distributed Control Systems) and plant automation tools.
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills under pressure.
- Good understanding of P&IDs, SOPs, Interlock/Logic diagrams, PTW systems, and root cause analysis.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
