About the role
Due to the growth of the College, the Islamic College of Brisbane is seeking a Student Counsellor to join our dedicated Student Wellbeing team. This role is a full-time position during school term time. As Student Counsellor, you will play a crucial role in supporting the wellbeing and personal development of our diverse student community. This highly rewarding role involves providing confidential counselling, mental health support and guidance to students, helping them navigate academic, social and emotional challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing one-on-one and group counselling to students, addressing a range of personal, social and mental health concerns
- Collaborating with teachers, parents and other stakeholders to identify and support students in need
- Developing and facilitating workshops and programs to promote student wellbeing, resilience and positive mental health
- Maintaining detailed case notes and records in line with professional standards
- Liaising with external support services and agencies to coordinate wraparound care for students
- Contributing to the overall pastoral care and student support framework of the college
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in psychology, counselling, social work or a related field
- Registered or eligible for registration as a psychologist, counsellor or social worker
- Extensive experience providing counselling and mental health support, ideally in an educational setting
- Demonstrated expertise in working with young people from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Strong ethical and professional boundaries, with a deep commitment to confidentiality
- Passion for promoting student wellbeing and fostering positive mental health
- Working with Children Blue Card Registration
