Deputy Principal – Central West Leadership Academy (Dubbo, NSW)

Central West Leadership Academy (CWLA) is an innovative, independent school reimagining education in a regional context. We deliver a values-driven, student-centred learning environment that fosters curiosity, leadership, and purpose in every student.

We are seeking an inspiring Deputy Principal (K–12) to join our Executive Leadership Team. This pivotal role will:

  • Lead teaching, learning, and curriculum compliance (NESA & IB).
  • Champion student and staff wellbeing while nurturing a positive school culture.
  • Drive strategic initiatives in partnership with the Principal and Board.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with families and the wider community.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Work collaboratively with the Principal to contribute to, implement, and oversee the strategic direction of the School.
  • Develop and promote the ethos of the school as set out in the school's Strategic Plan.
  • Work cohesively with other members of the Executive Leadership team in the development and implementation of visionary goals and strategic directions for the School.
  • Attend prescribed meetings with members of the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Work closely with the Principal in all aspects of leading, developing and managing the School.

Educational Leadership

  • Demonstrated experience as an outstanding classroom practitioner.
  • Keep abreast of current trends in policy development, curriculum offerings and curriculum delivery.
  • Lead teaching and learning through strategic and collaborative engagement with the teaching staff.
  • Oversee and facilitate the delivery of quality teaching and learning in the School including the implementation of the new National Curriculum.
  • Assist the Principal to oversee all curriculum compliance and the mandatory registration procedures consistent with NESA guidelines and requirements.
  • Oversee all School assessments and academic reporting consistent with NESA guidelines and requirements.
  • Oversee and liaise with Academic, IB and Primary Coordinators and teachers in matters of student progress, expectations and homework.
  • Teach classes as required.

Wellbeing Leadership

  • Lead and champion staff and student welfare and pastoral care.
  • Assist the Principal in the development and maintenance of a School culture that promotes the values of the School mission and vision.
  • Supporting the implementation of a high standard of well-being (and discipline) in all facets of School life.
  • Actively lead and support all staff members in their care of students.
  • Develop and lead the pastoral care program for staff and students.
  • Support and promote the School enrolment procedures.
  • Support the School's capacity and willingness to respond to those in need.

Staff Management

  • Lead, manage and mentor all School staff, and manage poor performance.
  • Assist the Principal in matters relating to the recruitment, selection and interviewing of suitable applicants for employment.

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee and administer the day-to-day operation of the School.
  • Organise the School timetable and the delegation of duties and responsibilities.
  • Teach outside your area of speciality at times to cover teaching vacancy.
  • Oversee the school calendar.
  • Oversee, the organisation of School assemblies.
  • Assist with the development and management of the annual School budget.
  • Develop and manage the annual professional development budget of Staff.
  • Plan, manage and oversee the teaching and learning spaces, facilities and resources for School students and staff to ensure they are suitable, sufficient, and appropriate.

Community Leadership

  • Effectively lead and champion partnering relationships with parents and community.
  • Demonstrate visibility and approachability within the School community, nurturing strong relationships with parents and community.
  • Communicate to all areas of the school, parents, staff and all external agencies regarding  School policies, procedures and events.
  • Develop and maintain effective procedures for the appropriate ongoing involvement of parents in the teaching and learning program of the School.
  • Providing support (and a resolution) for staff, student, and parents when parental (and student) concerns around teaching and learning are raised or escalated.
  • Assist the Principal to ensure positive exposure of the School to the community through Newsletters and other school publications.

Special Requirements Variable Duties/Hours:

The nature of the position is such that the Deputy Principal is required to be available outside the School hours to fully participate in the total life of the School, inclusive but not limited to; attending School events on and off campus, community networking engagements, meetings, and presentations.

Selection Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualification in Education
  • School Leadership experienceExperience in timetabling and daily operations (Edval, Edumate)
  • High energy levels, proactive, and self-motivated
  • Highly skilled in time management
  • Ability to build quick rapport and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborative team player
  • Able to demonstrate empathy with the ethos of the School

About You: You are a proven school leader (minimum 2 years in senior leadership or 5+ years in middle leadership) with a passion for innovation, equity, and excellence in education. You bring high energy, strong relational skills, and the ability to lead with integrity and vision.
