About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Accountant and working closely with the bookkeeping and advisory teams, the
Payroll Officer
will be responsible for the end-to-end payroll management of multiple client entities. The role requires a strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, award interpretation, and compliance standards across a range of industries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process end-to-end payroll for multiple client companies on a weekly, fortnightly, and monthly basis
  • Ensure all payroll activities comply with Fair Work, ATO, and superannuation requirements
  • Maintain and update employee records, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality
  • Prepare and lodge payroll-related reports, including PAYG, superannuation, and STP submissions
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and assist with BAS and EOFY processes
  • Manage client communications and provide prompt resolutions to payroll queries
  • Interpret modern awards and EBAs accurately for correct pay and entitlement calculations
  • Support the accounting team with payroll audits, reporting, and system improvements

Skills & Experience Required

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in end-to-end payroll processing within Australia
  • Prior experience in an
    accounting or bookkeeping firm
    preferred
  • Strong understanding of payroll legislation, Fair Work awards, and STP reporting requirements
  • Proficiency in
    Xero
    and/or
    MYOB
    payroll systems (experience with multiple clients is highly regarded)
  • Intermediate to advanced
    Excel
    skills
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisation, and time management skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to manage multiple clients with professionalism and discretion
