As a Principal Software Engineer you will be a technical North Star for multiple projects building high-throughput, low-latency services that process millions of receipts and loyalty events daily. You'll help shape engineering standards, steer architecture decisions and ship production code every week. Reporting to the CTO, you'll run a team of 3-5 engineers.
Responsibilities
- Run technical feasibility and system design discussions, ensuring alignment with our overall technical strategy.
- Lead a cross-functional squad of engineers through sprint planning, code reviews and retros.
- Contribute to the technical roadmap for our event-driven AWS stack (EKS, Aurora Postgres, SNS, SQS, Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, Cognito).
- Coach senior and junior engineers; champion clean code, automated testing and CI/CD best practice.
- Support the coordination of multiple streams of work, ensuring integrated solutions and minimising bottlenecks across projects.
- Partner with Design, Product & Data to create new AI-driven personalisation features across our product lines
- Contribute to the integration of AI tooling into engineering workflows, fostering an AI-first mindset across the team, and provide coaching on AI best practices.
- Foster a culture of constructive feedback and an environment of trust and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- 10+ years building distributed systems (currently only accepting expertise in ).
- Startup/Scaleup experience is a must.
- Technical planning skills and desire to coach engineers.
- Deep expertise in AWS, IaC (CloudFormation/Terraform), CI/CD and observability.
- Proven track record making pragmatic product decisions and driving large-scale refactors.
- Proven experience in leveraging AI tools and technologies for engineering processes, with a strong AI-driven mindset.
- Ability to coach and mentor staff engineers on adopting AI practices to enhance productivity and innovation.
- Clear, empathetic communication - from team collaboration to one-on-one feedback.
- Experience operating in fintech, retail, loyalty or payments is a plus.
