About the team:
The City Inspectorate Branch is responsible for enforcement of the City's standards and local laws, across building, community, public safety and environmental health compliance to protect safety and amenity for the City's residents and visitors. You will be working within a supportive and driven team whilst having the support of great line leaders. Within this Branch you will be working in the Development Compliance unit of which is responsible for ensuring that any building works across the City are compliant with relevant legislation and approvals.
About your new role:
This role will further develop and employ your comprehensive knowledge of the Plumbing and Drainage Act, Regulations, Codes and Standards to deliver high quality plumbing and drainage assessment and inspection services. You will utilise your industry leading skills, knowledge and abilities to deliver quality assessment services through the consistent application of legislation within the required time frames.
You will be excited about the hands-on aspect of the role as you conduct on-site inspections of plumbing and drainage installations.
This position operates a variety of computing platforms, software and web-based applications and your ability to rapidly acquire the skills knowledge and ability to employ new technologies is vital to the successful delivery of our services. You will be passionate about continuous improvement and constantly interrogate processes to improve efficiencies and service delivery standards in conjunction with the Senior Plumbing Inspector.
Finally, the position requires a high level of written and verbal communication skills to accurately articulate technical information to a complex variety of stakeholders.
What you will be doing:
- Assess design drawings submitted through the development application process in accordance with legislative requirements.
- Provide professional advice to colleagues, plumbers, consultants and general public on plumbing and drainage matters.
- Ensure that commercial and domestic plans conform with legislative, Council policy and local law requirements.
- Conduct onsite inspections, ensuring that the plumbing and drainage systems within the City are, and remain, in a fully operational condition in accordance with legislative and Council guidelines.
- Provide a high level of customer service ensuring a prompt response to written and verbal requests by clients and stakeholders and through delivering technical solutions where required.
- Participate as a member of a team and independently to actively participate in the working environment.
- Perform any other duties as directed from time to time by the Supervisor, provided that such duties are within the competency and area of expertise of the nominated employee.
- Contribute to continuous improvement practices within the branch, identifying opportunities for business and process improvement.
We're looking for people who have:
- You hold a current Occupational Plumbing and Drainage licence or other related qualification/licence.
- You hold a current "C" class unrestricted driver's licence.
- You possess a construction industry white card.
- Willing to ensure your obligation to workplace health and safety and all relevant policies, procedures and legislative requirements are followed.
- You will have the ability to apply analytical and critical thinking.
- You will have high level communication and negotiation skills and be proficient across a variety of computing platforms and software.

- You commit to working safely, can work autonomously while being a productive member of a large team.
