
Civil Engineer

As a Civil Engineer, you'll play a key role in delivering structural solutions that blend technical excellence with innovative thinking. By balancing quality, safety, and practicality, you'll collaborate with your team to bring projects to life while growing your expertise in solving complex challenges in ways that push the boundaries of what's possible.
Responsibilities:
Technical
- Assist in the planning and development of conceptual designs for various civil
engineering projects, including roads, drainage systems, water and wastewater infrastructure, and site development. - Perform engineering calculations, analyses, and design tasks for civil infrastructure components, ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
- Develop and utilise hydraulic and hydrologic models to analyse stormwater management systems, flood control measures, and water distribution networks.
- Assist in the planning and interpretation of geotechnical investigations and incorporate findings into design solutions for foundations, earthworks, and retaining structures.
- Design and analyse pavement structures for roads and other paved areas, considering traffic loads, material properties, and environmental factors.
- Design and coordinate the layout and installation of underground utilities, including water, sewer, and stormwater systems.
- Integrate sustainable design principles and best practices into project designs, considering environmental impact and resource efficiency.
- Prepare clear and concise technical reports, design documentation, and specifications.
Collaboration & Teamwork
- Assist senior engineers and project managers in coordinating project activities,
including communication with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies. - Conduct site inspections to monitor construction progress, ensure compliance with
design specifications, and identify potential issues. - Provide technical support during the construction phase, responding to contractor
queries and resolving design-related challenges. - Assist in the preparation of applications for permits and approvals from relevant authorities.
- Assist in tracking project budgets and schedules.
- Participate in quality control procedures to ensure the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions.
Financial
- Monitor own workflow and recommend corrective actions to optimise project outcomes.
- Comply with invoicing and expenditure procedures.
- Work within estimated parameters to deliver cost effective design and services.
Professional Development
- Stay up to date with the latest advancements in civil engineering technology, codes, and best practices.
- Develop proficiency in relevant engineering software, including CAD (e.g., AutoCAD
Civil 3D), hydraulic/hydrologic modelling software (e.g., HEC-RAS, MUSIC), and other
analysis tools. - Pursue professional development opportunities, including training courses, seminars, and conferences.
- Collaborate effectively with senior engineers and seek mentorship to enhance technical skills and professional growth.
- Develop strong communication and teamwork skills to effectively collaborate within project teams and interact with stakeholders.
Health, Safety, Environment & Quality
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and relevant ISO standards and ensure
project document is retained as per HSEQ Management System - Play a key role in developing and delivering systems or project administration training for employees.
- Participate in HSEQ training, report incidents, and support a culture of safety and
quality. - Follow safety rules, identify and address risks, and promote a safe workplace.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, recommending corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Proactively identify and assess potential risks, develop mitigation strategies, and
implement measures to ensure safety in design and on site - Participates in Emergency Preparedness activities e.g. fire evacuations.
Innovation
- Participate in discussions on work system improvements, including leveraging
technology for information sharing, management, and quality control. - Actively engage in reviewing work standards and monitoring processes, initiating
recommendations for improvement. - Assist clients in identifying sustainable options and implications.
- Bring ideas forward on how we can improve the way we deliver our partner
experience.
Experience & Qualifications:
- 2-7 years of experience in Civil Engineering.
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
- Member of Engineers Australia.
- Charted Professional Engineer (CPEng) or working towards it.
