About the Company

This company is a leading, independent civil engineering contractor, delivering large-scale infrastructure projects across New South Wales and Queensland. Committed to excellence in environmental outcomes, safety, and sustainability, they are looking for an Environment and Sustainability Coordinator to join their established team, to support a growing project portfolio, ensuring high environmental standards and continuous improvement across all sites. The Environment and Sustainability Coordinator will play a key role in driving these initiatives on Sydney-based projects.

About the Role

This role involves day-to-day site-based environmental and sustainability responsibilities, building strong relationships and trust with site teams. The company prioritises environmental impacts in every decision, and this role is critical in ensuring these standards are met and continuously improved across projects. With sustainability becoming an increasing focus, this position offers a unique opportunity to help shape and influence the company's sustainability journey, contributing to the growth and development of this evolving area.

Duties

  • Implement and maintain Environmental and Sustainability policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with legislation and company standards.
  • Visit sites to engage with site teams and management, providing guidance and responding to technical environmental and sustainability queries.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and incident investigations, identifying areas for improvement and development in environmental performance.
  • Assist in the preparation of Project Environmental Plans (PEPs) and Environmental Work Methodologies.
  • Support internal and external audits related to ISO 14001 and sustainability programs.
  • Contribute to sustainability input in tender submissions, design reviews, and project close-out documentation.
  • Support preparation of sustainability reports for internal and client requirements.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, acting as a key point of contact for environmental matters.
  • Support the integration of environmental management into broader HSEQ processes.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience in a similar role within civil engineering, infrastructure, or related industries.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing environmental and sustainability policies in line with legislative requirements.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related fields.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Construction White Card and current driver's licence preferred.
  • Knowledge of environmental remediation systems or Bluebook training is advantageous.
