The
Prevention Division
aims to prevent cancer across the Australian population. This is done through mass media, advocacy, community interventions, professional education, training and providing policy advice based on the best available evidence. This involves action to affect individual behaviours and the broader physical and legislative environment to support health and wellbeing and reduce cancer risk. We prioritise health inequalities, especially in relation to Aboriginal peoples, and in culturally diverse and socio-economically disadvantaged communities.
UNIT SUMMARY
The Quit program is a joint initiative of Cancer Council Victoria, the Department of Health and VicHealth. Quit's purpose is to end the devasting impact of tobacco and vapes on people and communities. The Quit program has been provided with funding from the Commonwealth Government to create a National Quit Cessation Platform, a national digital hub to support people who smoke and/or vape to quit.
About your opportunity
We are seeking a Psychologist with experience in cessation to join the National Cessation Platform team within Quit in the Prevention Division. Reporting to the Quit Medical Lead, your role includes the following:
- Contribute to content development for and other relevant resources through identification of relevant research and information to ensure information reflects consistent best practice behaviour change and evidence
- Support the development of evidence-based cessation resources and tools aligned with behaviour change best-practice for people who are experiencing nicotine dependence, including smoking and /or vaping
- Provide input for mass media campaigns, cessation publications and service enhancements
- Contribute to the Quit Community of Practice and other relevant committees when required, providing advice and support
- Support development and implementation of training resources and cessation tools for contemporary audiences
- Work closely with the Quit Medical Lead and liaise with GPs, pharmacists, psychologists and other health professionals to identify emerging trends and gaps in cessation care
All about you
We are looking for someone with:
- Postgraduate qualifications in psychology and Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency registration
- Current professional indemnity insurance
- Substantial knowledge of nicotine dependence, including smoking and vaping cessation or addiction treatments and management approaches
- High level of digital literacy with demonstrated experience delivering strategic digital tools and/or platforms to support client care
- Proven ability to synthesize research and translate it into practical tools
