The Redland City Bands is a not-for-profit community band organisation founded in 1984, and a current Redlands Performing Arts Centre (RPAC) Program Partner.  With a strong focus on community, we offer the opportunity for musicians of all ages to come together to play music. Our current membership of over 100 ranges in age from eight to eighty and in ability from beginners to professional.  The organisation is made up of 5 bands – three concert bands (beginner, intermediate and advanced) and two jazz bands.

We have an exciting opportunity for a conductor to join our organisation as conductor of our intermediate level concert band – Wind Ensemble. This band rehearses on Thursday nights in Cleveland and has approx. 45 players. We are looking for an engaging and exciting conductor who would be enthusiastic about leading a developing ensemble for weekly rehearsals and multiple concerts throughout the year.

About the role:

Plan and take weekly rehearsals on Thursdays from 7-9pm

Plan suitable repertoire that develops and engages the band

Conduct the band at multiple concerts throughout the year, including the National Band Championships 2026.

Liaise with the Musical Director for support around repertoire, rehearsals, and concerts

Liaise with the management committee around planning for concerts

Attend monthly committee meetings

There is an honorarium attached to this position

Skills and experience:

Have strong, demonstratable communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills

Ability to work collaboratively with the Musical Director and management committee

Hold a relevant tertiary qualification OR experience in conducting concert bands or other ensembles

Hold, or have the ability to obtain, a Blue Card
