Oroya Labs is seeking a motivated and capable Casual Laboratory Technician to join our onsite team in Charters Towers. This is a great opportunity to work in a small, high-performing team supporting mining and processing operations through accurate, timely analytical results.

This position is offered on a casual basis, with flexibility for candidates living locally or commuting from the greater Far North Queensland region.

We welcome applications from people who may not have direct mineral processing/geochemical laboratory experience but are eager to learn and develop new skills. Previous laboratory experience will be highly regarded, particularly with sample preparation, PAL and AAS, but is not essential for the right candidate.

In this role, you will carry out a variety of laboratory tasks, from sample preparation to routine and specialised testing, ensuring results are delivered to the highest standard. You will also work closely with the processing and mining teams to resolve issues related to sample quality and help maintain the smooth operation of the plant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out sample preparation, including crushing, riffle splitting, pulverising, wet and dry screening, PAL, and classical wet chemistry techniques
  • Operate and maintain analytical instruments including an atomic absorption spectrometer (AAS)
  • Safely handle hazardous chemicals and complete risk assessments in line with safety standards
  • Maintain accurate records and use Microsoft Excel for data management and reporting
  • Manage laboratory consumables and raise work orders as required
  • Work both independently and collaboratively to ensure safe, accurate, and efficient laboratory operations

Desirable Experience:

  • Previous laboratory experience, particularly in a mining setting, including previous experience with PAL and AAS (preferred but not essential)
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of autonomy

Role Requirements:

  • Full working rights in Australia
  • Ability to provide a valid National Police Clearance (issued within the last 12 months)
  • Current Australian 'C' Class Driver's Licence and reliable transport to site
  • Willingness to undergo a pre-employment medical check
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
