Melbourne, Victoria, Australia WeGuide Full time $120,000 - $180,000 per year

About us

At WeGuide, we're transforming healthcare with advanced AI. We are on a mission to improve the lives of 1 billion people with digital health. Our platform enables researchers, clinicians, and pharma to design, validate, and commercialise new digital health solutions at scale — accelerating precision medicine, remote trials, and digital therapeutics. Our customers include world-renowned institutions like the Royal Children's Hospital, the World Health Organization, and the Murdoch Children's Institute.

We are a remote-friendly company with a team across 5 countries. We're driven by bold innovation, practical execution, and the belief that agentic AI will redefine how we discover and deliver better health outcomes. If you're excited about building autonomous AI systems that create real-world impact, we'd love to connect.

What we are looking for

We're looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join our team. This is a key, hands-on role where you will architect and build a new, high-impact product. We're looking for a strong software engineer who is excited to design and build our next-generation autonomous AI systems.

We understand that agentic AI is a new and rapidly evolving field. If you are a proven engineer with a strong foundation in system design, a passion for this space, and a love for complex problem-solving, we encourage you to apply, even if you don't have direct experience building autonomous agents. Please apply and tell us why you believe you're the right person for this role.

In this role, you'll architect and contribute to building our core agentic AI platform. You will be a core contributor in helping create an autonomous system that can reason, plan, and execute complex tasks to generate valuable insights from our unique, multimodal data streams.

What you will do

As a Lead Software Engineer at WeGuide, you will have a significant contribution to :

  • Architecting, developing, and deploying

autonomous AI agents that drive complex analytical workflows.
- Designing intelligent agent systems

capable of planning, reasoning, classifying, and taking actions across complex and varied multimodal datasets
- Implementing custom tools

for your agents, such as academic search functions and specific Python scripts for statistical analysis (e.g., linear regression).
- Implementing robust evaluation and testing pipelines

for the agents and LLMs, including building an automated regression suite to ensure our AI-generated models are accurate and reliable.
- Improving the user experience

by helping design and build effective UIs to monitor, manage, and interact with the AI systems.
- Collaborating cross-functionally

with product managers, engineers, and digital health experts to translate research ideas into production-ready solutions.
- Guiding and mentoring engineers

, promoting best practices for building high-quality, well-tested, and scalable agentic AI systems.

What skills and experience we are looking for

Ideally we are looking for a strong engineer who combines a solid technical foundation with cutting-edge AI skills.

Essential skills

  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, AI/ML, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with a keen interest in AI/ML or agent systems.
  • Strong, language-agnostic programming skills

. You are a great coder first. You will primarily be working in
Python and/or TypeScript

, though familiarity with
Ruby

is a plus. If you can demonstrate high competence in any higher order language that is fine.
- Data architecture and governance:

Understanding of data architecture principles, including how to design systems that handle and segregate data based on privacy and security classifications. Experience in refining large, raw datasets into structured, usable formats would be highly regarded.
- Experience with diverse datasets:

Proven ability to work with, classify, and integrate large-scale, complex, and diverse datasets, ideally including multimodal data (e.g., handling data from different sources, types, or formats).
- Strong system architecture and design skills

, with experience building scalable, cloud-native systems (e.g., AWS CloudFormation, Terraform).
- A deep commitment to quality

, including experience with automated testing (TDD) and maintaining efficient, reusable, and reliable code.

Highly desirable skills

  • Experience with agent frameworks

(e.g., LangChain, LangGraph, Autogen, OpenAI Agents SDK, or similar).
- Hands-on expertise with LLM integration

, RAG, vector databases, fine-tuning, and evaluation (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, LLaMA, Hugging Face, LangSmith).
- Specific familiarity with
machine learning principles and linear regression analysis

is a bonus, however if you are the right candidate we back you to learn it.

What is important to us

  • A strong personal alignment

with WeGuide's mission of making a positive impact on people's lives.
- A startup/scale-up mindset

. You are a creative problem solver who enjoys learning, experimenting with new ideas, and will learn whatever you need to get the job done.
- Proven leadership ability

. You can navigate ambiguity, self-direct, and drive change.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills

, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts in simple terms.
- High level of emotional intelligence

and the ability to build strong relationships with your team.
- A strong product and delivery focus

—you understand that code that is not delivered is just text in a file.

Why Join Us?

  • Shape the future of agentic AI in digital health

.
- Build autonomous AI systems

that directly accelerate healthcare innovation.
- Work with real-world multimodal datasets

across wearables, mobile, and clinical trials.
- Join an amazingly genuine, engaging, and friendly culture

that is inclusive and open.
- Enjoy flexible working hours and location

. We are a proven remote-friendly team working across 5 countries.
- A strong focus on your growth and development

. You will be joining a team with 15+ years of experience in digital health and a proven track record of commercialising AI-driven health solutions.
