About the Infant Child and Youth Mental Health Service (ICYMHS)

ICYMHS is part of the Mental Health Division at Austin Health. Multiple teams provide specialised service to the north-eastern catchment of Melbourne (local government areas of Banyule, Nillumbik, Darebin, Whittlesea, Yarra and Boroondara). Young people eligible for the service are 0 to 25 years in line with Royal Commission recommendations.

The Youth Brief Intervention Service (YBIS)provides brief family and system focused support for youth yo) including primary and secondary consultation, family and system focused therapeutic work. This is in conjunction with other community agencies such as headspace, Youth Support & Advocacy Service (YSAS), Child Protection or Youth Justice in the Banyule, Boroondara, Yarra, Darebin, Nillumbik or Whittlesea areas.

About the role

The role includes both clinical duties and leadership role, generally split as 0.3 EFT clinical work and 0.2 EFT leadership, with adjustments made as determined by the Clinical Director ICYMHS within EFT.

The Lead Youth Consultant Psychiatrist provides expert clinical support to the Clinical Director, ICYMHS and collaborates with the Divisional Manager to develop and deliver services for young people aged 12–25. They oversee clinical care, governance, teaching, research, and resource management.

The Consultant Psychiatrist for the Youth Brief Intervention Service (YBIS) leads psychiatric care for young people aged 12–25 and works with the team leader and program manager to ensure high-quality, evidence-based services within a strong clinical governance framework.

About you

To be successful in this role you'll bring with you:

  • Be a registered Medical Practitioner in Australia with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Have Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent post graduate specialist qualification.
  • RANZCP Certificate of Advanced Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, or equivalent or significant experience in Youth Psychiatry will be considered for this role
  • Hold a current Working with Children Check.
  • Strong knowledge of triage and access pathways into tertiary mental health services.
  • Experience in liaison psychiatry, including emergency department inreach.
  • Skilled in working with individuals with serious mental illness.
