Kemps Creek New South Wales Australia Animal Welfare League Nsw Full time $120,000 - $180,000 per year

About Us

For over 60 years, Animal Welfare League NSW (AWL NSW) has been a leading registered charity dedicated to providing expert care for surrendered, neglected, and abandoned companion animals across NSW.

The Opportunity

Join our dedicated team as a Full-Time Veterinary Surgeon. Whether you're a seasoned professional or a new graduate starting out, we'll support you to thrive and grow with us. Select part-time opportunities may also be considered depending on the applicant.

The role will be primarily based at our Kemps Creek Veterinary Clinic, where no two days are the same. You'll care for shelter animals rescued by our Inspectors or surrendered by their owners, while also supporting the wider community with privately owned pets. From routine check-ups to complex cases, you'll see a broad range of patients with the chance to expand your skills working across varied species, all with the guidance and support of our experienced vets and nursing team.

As part of the team, you'll participate in a weekend rotation (approximately one weekend every six weeks) and have the chance to work on our Mobile Vet Clinic. This unique opportunity allows you to travel to regional communities to deliver subsidised de-sexing, vaccinations and microchipping services. During times of crisis, the Mobile Vet Clinic is also deployed to support communities during natural disasters such as bushfires and floods, providing veterinary care, animal shelter, and vital supplies.

Responsibilities:

• Provide veterinary care through examinations, diagnosis, and treatment planning.

• Perform surgical and medical procedures.

• Conduct diagnostic testing, including radiography and pathology.

• Ensure compliance with regulatory, legislative, and WHS requirements.

• Maintain accurate clinical records and communicate updates to clients and stakeholders.

• Prepare evidence for legal cases and represent the organisation in court when required.

• Mentor and guide nursing staff and less experienced team members.

• If you're a new graduate or less experienced vet, you'll receive hands-on mentoring and support from our experienced veterinary team to help you build confidence and skills.

• Collaborate closely with a skilled and supportive nursing team

Why You'll Love It Here

At AWL NSW, we offer more than just a job:

• A supportive and flexible workplace where you can thrive

• Designated surgery days to build and refine your skills

• Financed continued education opportunities to support your professional growth

• Exposure to and hands-on experience with a variety of species

• Competitive pay and benefits

• Access to an Employee Assistance Program

• Retail discounts and staff perks

• A culture that values and recognises meaningful work

• An environment where every individual is empowered to make a real difference each day

About You

Whether you're an experienced veterinarian or just starting your career, we'd love to hear from you.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• Tertiary qualifications in Veterinary Science (or equivalent)

• Registration (or eligibility for registration) as a Veterinary Surgeon in NSW

• Ideally, at least 1 year of experience in veterinary practice (not essential for new graduates)

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities

• Proficiency with computer systems and a willingness to learn new software

• An understanding of relevant legislation, policies and procedures

• Clear and professional written communication skills, with the ability to adapt tone and format to suit your audience
