Vacancy Intro

About Haskoning:
At Haskoning, you will join an independent, employee-owned international consultancy that combines engineering, design, and consultancy services with software and technology. Our mission, "Enhancing Society Together," drives us to create a positive impact on the world.

We offer purpose-driven and challenging work in diverse international projects, leveraging our 140+ years of expertise. With over 6,800 employees in more than 25 countries, we work together to turn challenges into opportunities and make a real impact on society.

About Haskoning Australia:
Based in Sydney, Newcastle and Brisbane, Haskoning in Australia is an engineering consultancy providing independent strategic advisory, design, engineering, environmental, and project management services to companies around the country and in neighbouring regions – including New Zealand, SE Asia and the Pacific Islands and Papua New Guinea
.
About First Marine International (FMI):
First Marine International (FMI) is the shipyard technology and maritime market research group within Haskoning; and the international leader in shipyard design, shipyard performance improvement and marine market research. We are a relatively small but growing team with offices in the UK (Falmouth, Newcastle upon Tyne, Glasgow), Australia, USA, Canada, Germany and India.

As FMI works closely with the Australian Defence Force and Government, an AGSVA security clearance will be required. As the role is very specialist and niche, FMI's hiring decisions are based on the meeting our competencies and qualifications with prolonged Shipyard experience essential in our senior roles. Although not essential, experience in Nuclear Shipbuilding and/or Shipyards will be favourable in a potential candidate's application. All potential candidates will be selected based on their unique strengths, experiences and how they would fit into FMI's existing international team.

What will you do

The overall purpose of the senior role is to deliver high-quality consultancy services to FMI clients. It is also to enhance the FMI team by providing additional technical expertise to an already very experienced team. The main focus areas will be shipyard design and performance improvement but there will be involvement with most areas that FMI is active in including marine market research.

You will already have substantial shipyard and industrial experience that you will be able to readily adapt to the maritime consultancy environment. Working initially under the close direction and supervision of Principal Consultants and Director, you will deepen your expert knowledge and consultancy skills relating to the shipyard technology and operations, shipyard design and market research aspects of the First Marine Advisory Group. In time you will progress to managing and undertaking projects, either alone or as part of an FMI team.

You will represent the company in front of clients (initially with supervision) and will work towards being able to present a credible solution to clients' problems and questions with due regard to accuracy, objectivity, risk and liability.

Job Role:

  • Develop specialist expertise in shipyard design and contribute to related technical areas as required.
  • Contribute to the full range of services offered by FMI, and support wider Haskoning activities when required
  • Manage others or work independently to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the required quality standard
  • Conduct research into shipyard-related topics
  • Travel within Australia and internationally as required
  • Develop and expand the technical capabilities of FMI
  • Foster a harmonious working environment and contribute to effective teamwork
  • Promote the company's work through technical publications and conference papers
  • Mentor and train colleagues as needed
  • Manage one or more key FMI client accounts
  • Contribute to and/or lead business development activities, including proposal writing
  • Support the development of FMI's presence and operations in Australia
  • Liaise and collaborate with the existing Haskoning team in Sydney, primarily composed of civil engineers and environmental specialists
  • Perform analysis and produce high-quality reports
  • Operate company systems and tools as required
