Animal Dermatology Specialist is inviting a motivated Nurse to join our experienced team. You will support our veterinarians to provide exceptional patient care for a diverse caseload of primarily dogs and cats. This role involves working across various locations, including one of the largest multidisciplinary specialist and emergency hospital networks in South East Queensland, Veterinary Specialist Services (VSS), as well as selected general practices. This role is full-time and will be primarily Gold Coast based with a smaller percentage of shifts in Underwood. ADS is based primarily between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, you may also travel occasionally to support services provided in regional locations.

About You

We're looking for a nurse who is passionate about working in a specialist environment, has a strong interest in dermatology, and is committed to providing outstanding patient care. To be considered for this position, demonstrate that you:

  • Have prior dermatology nursing experience or nursing skills from a specialist or GP setting (2+ years of clinical experience is preferred)
  • Hold a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent qualification (preferred)
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, colleagues and veterinarians
  • Bring strong organisational skills to manage a varied clinical workload
  • Show enthusiasm for continued learning and professional growth in veterinary dermatology

Their collective knowledge and experience enhance the quality of care we provide, allowing our dermatologists to be supported to focus on complex cases and advanced treatments.

What to expect from the role

Clinical, Procedures and Patient Care, including but not limited to:

  • Recognise common dermatological conditions
  • Understand fundamentals of key dermatological drugs
  • Monitor patients during procedures; assist with anaesthetic induction and recovery
  • Collect, prepare, and assess cytology samples
  • Perform IDAT under supervision; explain results, discuss treatment plans, and document findings
  • Initiate and manage ASIT and assist with rush protocols
  • Educate clients on skin care, medication, and follow-up care

Practice Administration, Operations and Client Care, including but not limited to:

  • Manage patient records, client details, and correspondence
  • Coordinate bookings, follow-ups, and specialist appointments (Initials, Revisits, ASIT, IDAT)
  • Process invoices, estimates, and GapOnly claims
  • Communicate with clients and referring vets by phone/email following protocols
  • Send updates and documentation to referring vets and insurers
