Southern Cross Facilities Services have an opportunity for an experienced Maintenance Carpenter / Handyman to join their successful team

Fulltime and Part-Time positions available

About the Role

We are seeking a reliable Maintenance Carpenter / Handyman to join our facilities team. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for the upkeep, repair, and minor construction of wooden structures and fixtures across our various clients' buildings. You will play a key role in maintaining a safe, functional, and visually appealing environment for our staff and clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out repairs to doors, windows, flooring, cabinetry, trim, and other wooden structures.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on carpentry-related systems.
  • Ability to install fixtures such as curtain rails, shelving, mouldings, and partition walls.
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant building codes and health and safety standards.
  • Responding to urgent repair calls (broken doors, windows, storm damage).
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed and report major issues as needed.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience in general or maintenance carpentry.
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Ability to read and interpret job specifications.
  • Basic knowledge of other building trades (e.g., drywall, tiling, minor plumbing) is a plus.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • A proactive and safety-conscious attitude.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Trade qualification in Carpentry (or equivalent experience).
  • QBCC contractor's license – Ideal, but not essential
  • Construction Safety Card
  • Tools and PPE
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
