About the Position

We are looking to welcome a part-time or full-time [0.8 FTE – 1.0 FTE] Specialist Family Support Practitioner to work in partnership with First Nations communities, ensuring culturally safe family support and reflective, inclusive practice. This is a great opportunity to contribute to the wellbeing of children and families.

  • It is a genuine occupational requirement that applicants are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Level 5 SCHCADS Award.
  • Salary range: $100,784 - $105,350 [pro-rata] + Superannuation.
  • Part-time/Full-time, Government funded position until 30 June 2030 with possible extension.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver culturally safe, strengths-based case management for families.
  • Engage families respectfully and collaboratively, developing case plans that build on cultural and family strengths.
  • Embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge systems in all work with First Nations families.
  • Mentor and coach team members to strengthen cultural practice capability.
  • Participate in case consultations, promoting culturally safe and reflective decision-making.

About You

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., allied health, social work, human services) or equivalent lived experience (subject to funding body approval).
  • Professional registration where required; membership of a relevant association is desirable.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience working with children and families.
  • Strong understanding of child protection issues and experience in case management or therapeutic services within a child protection framework.
  • Ability to provide cultural practice guidance, supporting others to embed cultural safety and trauma-informed approaches.

Other Requirements

  • Eligibility for a Working with Children Check or professional exemption.
  • Current driver's licence.
  • Legal ability to work in Australia (proof of eligibility required).
  • Willingness of a respected Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural referee to vouch for your appropriateness for this role.
