We are currently looking for a
Hatchery Manager
based at Seafarms Flying Fish Point Hatchery. Flying Fish Point is a beautiful, coastal town located in the Cassowary Coast Region, just over an hour's drive from Cairns, Queensland.
The Role
As the Hatchery Manager, you will play a crucial role in providing management, leadership and direction for the hatchery operations at Flying Fish Point, including both commercial hatchery operations and the breeding program. The facilities to be managed by the Hatchery Manager will be developed in line with production capabilities and expectations of the business and the Hatchery Manager will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of any redevelopment program as well as commercial production
You will be responsible to ensure the highest quality of prawn broodstock and ensuring the efficient and effective production of post-larvae, managing a team of hatchery technicians, and maintaining the highest standards of biosecurity. Job Responsibilities
Below are some job responsibilities, but not limited to:
- Management of the breeding program in accordance with the Breeding Program development plan and to achieve the specified breeding program KPI's.
- Provide leadership and direction for hatchery management, planning and logistics of the department.
- Development, adaptation and industrialisation of technology for hatchery operations. Including the ability to go back to first principles in developing a solution.
- Ensure that the hatchery operations meet both the strategic and operational needs of the downstream (grow out) departments.
About you
- Certificate IV Aquaculture; BSc or related areas;
- 10 years plus experience with Black Tiger prawns (Penaeus monodon) is an advantage although not imperative, other species such as F merguiensis, F indicus or L vannamei are acceptable as is hatchery experience in other marine species (Pearls, lobsters etc);
- Proactive, professional individual who has a focus on quality and attention to detail;
- Strong organisational and time management skills in order to manage multiple tasks at any one time, as well as support others in meeting agreed deliverables;
- High level of written and verbal communication skills (English);
