We're looking for a practical, hands-on team member to join our Outdoor Operations team. As a Cleaner/Handyperson, you'll be out and about across Wodonga each day—helping to keep our streets, parks and public spaces clean, safe and well-maintained for the whole community.
- Maintain public spaces From sweeping streets and footpaths to emptying bins, pressure washing shelters and removing graffiti, this role takes pride in ensuring Wodonga's parks, paths and civic spaces look their best. Operating plant and equipment such as the street sweeper and blowers is also a key part of keeping the city clean and welcoming for residents and visitors.
- Carry out repairs and upkeep You'll take on small but important fixes that keep the city running smoothly. This includes painting, staining or repairing park benches and playground equipment, replacing signage or fittings, and maintaining hard landscape features—practical tasks that extend the life of community assets.
- Support gardens and green spaces The position works closely with the gardens team to assist with planting, weeding, mulching, pruning and irrigation. These varied outdoor tasks help maintain vibrant, healthy green spaces for the community to enjoy.
- Engage safely and respectfully In this role, safety comes first. Following safe work procedures, handling chemicals responsibly and managing traffic are all part of daily operations. At the same time, you'll interact with residents and visitors, answering questions, offering help, and representing Council in a positive and approachable way.

Key Selection Criteria
Our ideal candidate will be able to show us the following:
- Certificate II or III in Asset Maintenance (Cleansing Operations) or equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
- Demonstrated experience in hard landscape maintenance, building and or carpentry experience and 3 years experience within the cleaning industry.
- Proven ability to follow instructions and work according to established processes.
- Ability to provide good customer service and ensure the quality of work outputs.

Prior to commencement, the successful applicant will be required to provide the following.
- A copy of a recent National Police Check (less than 3 months)
- A current driver's licence
- Any other mandatory requirements outlined in the position description (eg. first aid, CPR, WWCC, forklift).
The completion of a pre-employment functional assessment (paid for by the council) will also be required.
If applicable, evidence regarding right to work in Australia will need to be presented.
