Background:
Gidarjil Development Corporation Limited is an Aboriginal organisation established to promote and support the economic, social & cultural development in Indigenous communities, within the Port Curtis Coral Coast (PCCC) region. GDCL encourages and supports a culture of lifelong learning & ongoing professional development. This is done through incentive programs that develop Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with maintaining & reviving their traditional practices in Cultural Heritage and Environmental protection.
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and qualified skipper to join our team on a casual basis.
This role involves:
- Operating a small vessel under 12m.
- Lead, coordinate, organise and direct specific activities of fellow team members
- Prepare supplies & equipment required to undertake given tasks, in conjunction with Gidarjil and Contract Management
- Completion of paperwork and maintenance as per Gidarjil's company standards
- Responsible for workflow, record keeping & reporting and tools & equipment maintenance depending on specific project
- Regular attendance, punctuality and reliability is a requirement of this position
- Follow Gidarjil's personnel and safety procedures
Skills and Experience:
- Coxswain Grade 1NC (or greater to operate a vessel with passengers)
- Long Range Radio (LROCP)
- Shipboard Safety/General Purpose hand
- Assist with the marine operations for the company
- Ensure all Workplace Health & Safety policies and procedures are followed
- Advanced First Aid certificate – Current
- Knowledge and experience of commercial charters essential
- Have excellent people management skills
- Strong understanding of marine OHS legislation
- Australian Working rights
Specific Requirements:
- This is not specifically an Identified position, however encouraged
- Have the ability to work predominantly on your own, as well as part of a team
- Must be fit and healthy, with a strong work ethic and have good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Must be prepared to work occasional nights or early mornings, as well as weekends, if required
- Must be able to follow directions and be able to organise tasks to meet deadlines
- Must hold a manual car driver's licence, or be willing to obtain within the probationary period
Remuneration:
The employee's salary is conscript to skills and knowledge, exclusive of superannuation. This will be based upon an agreement between both, the employer and the employee. The employee will be paid weekly.
Hours of Operation:
Hours are normally between 7:30am and 4:15pm Monday through Thursday with Friday being 7:30am to 12:00pm, or as directed by your line manager.
