The Role
The Life Support Technical Officer plays a critical role within Defence, providing technical expertise, guidance, and assessment across the life cycle of Defence materiel. Working under broad direction, this role contributes to the delivery of technical life support solutions aligned with legislative, policy, and regulatory frameworks.
This position is accountable for performing complex life support technical activities, including assessment, investigation, and reporting, while applying sound judgement and initiative. The role involves exercising assigned technical engineering authorities, developing and reviewing technical documentation, and identifying and mitigating risks to ensure capability and safety outcomes are achieved.
Stakeholder engagement is central to this role, requiring the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders to address complex issues and support Defence objectives. The role demands a proactive approach to identifying stakeholder needs and delivering tailored technical solutions.
About our Team
The Army Aviation Systems Branch (AASB) purpose is to deliver military aviation systems to the capability managers. AASB is responsible for the acquisition and through-life support of all Army helicopters and tactical unmanned aerial systems through both Project Offices (PO) and Systems Program Offices (SPO) within Australia and overseas.

Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter who can work within the bounds of a technical framework, and understand the needs of a wide customer base. The candidate should have excellent communication skills and be able to explain technical information both verbally and in writing to all Aircrew Life Support Equipment users - including operational units and other elements within Army Aviation.
Security Clearance:
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at "Baseline Vetting" level.
Mandatory Qualifications:
This technical position requires the individual to have obtained a recognised Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Level 6 qualification in a relevant technical domain or relevant skills and work experience such that an individual can reasonably achieve a recognised AQF qualification if required by the position.
