The Opportunity
CatholicCare Social Services is seeking a compassionate Peer Worker to provide person-centered, recovery-focused support to clients across the Mid Coast. Drawing on your understanding of mental health recovery, you will help individuals build confidence, stay connected to services, and navigate their wellbeing journey.
In this role, you'll work alongside clients to offer practical support, encourage healthy routines, and assist them in engaging with GPs, psychiatrists, psychologists, and other allied health professionals. You will liaise with families and carers where appropriate, contribute to support plan development and reviews, and ensure clients have access to holistic, wrap-around care.
You'll maintain strong links with local services, support clients to attend appointments, and keep accurate, up-to-date records. Working within a small team, you'll collaborate closely with the Team Leader and Clinical Coordinator while also operating confidently and independently.
We're looking for someone with strong communication skills, the ability to build positive relationships, and a commitment to professional boundaries and ongoing development. Experience supporting people with mental health challenges is essential.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The aim of the Clinical Care program is to provide greater access to mental health services for those people living with mental illness in the HNECC region. Mental Health Services in Primary Care will improve service integration and achieve alignment with a person centred, stepped care approach. The aims will be achieved by engaging a range of mental health professionals to provide a suite of evidence based mental health services to people that would otherwise
have little or no access to such services.
The role of the Peer Worker is to work alongside the Clinical Coordinator to provide coordinated clinical care for people living with complex and enduring mental illness. Clinical Care will be provided to clients in line with a treatment plan created by a GP or psychiatrist. The Clinical Coordinator will guide the care that will be provided to clients and collaborate with the Peer Support Worker to liaise with local networks in the community and provide the support required for each client on their mental health journey.
EXPERIENCE/CRITERIA
- A commitment to the Vision, Mission and Values of our organisation and active engagement in organisational events
- Lived experience with mental health illness and a sound understanding of local support services
- Good working knowledge of mental health legislation and practices
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate with external stakeholders to provide a holistic approach to support for clients
- Demonstrated communication skills and the ability to write detailed and informed notes
- Commitment to learning and improving skills in the social services and mental health sector
ESSENTIAL
- NSW Drivers Licence
- Experience working in mental health, social services or similar field
- NSW Working With Children Check (WWCC)
- Qualifications or working toward in peer work, mental health, social work, nursing or equivalent (Desired)
