About the role

The successful applicant will be required to provide all stewarding, and cleaning activities pertaining to both the day and overnight cleaning/sanitising of 5 Star Hotel Facilities in the Sydney CBD and surrounds.

As a steward, kitchen hand/cleaner, the successful applicant will not only have a strong working knowledge of HACCP and WHS practices, but also ensure the highest level of attention to the cleanliness and sanitation of the back-of-house working environment for all food preparation areas and kitchens.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Flexible ability to work both day and night shifts.
  • Proven experience working in fast paced, high volume commercial kitchens.
  • Experience with assisting with food preparation,
  • Routine cleaning and maintenance of all areas of the kitchen area ensuring compliance with health, safety and HACPP standards .
  • Knowledge of deep cleaning and sanitising of kitchens and ensuring all checklists and tasks are completed to the highest standard.
  • Comply with required safety regulations and procedures.
  • Experience in the use and cleaning of commercial kitchen appliances and machinery.
  • Maintain clean and tidy kitchen storerooms at all times.
  • Work safety with chemicals to assist with the cleaning process.
  • Ensure correct working order of food and beverage equipment and report broken/damaged equipment to supervisor or proper departments for repair.

Skills and experience:

  • Previous experience as a Steward / Kitchen Hand and Cleaner is essential and preferable within a 5 Star Hotel environment.
  • Good presentation, communication skills and a fluency in English.
  • Strong understanding of commercial kitchen equipment, chemical handling, food safety, HACCP and workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Ability to work within a team and under pressure.
  • Willingness and ability to work rotating day and overnight shifts over seven day period..
