With 12 busy operating theatres, our Perioperative and Recovery team offers an exciting and rewarding opportunity for skilled nurses to make a real impact. As part of the Recovery team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional, patient-centred care, ensuring each patient's safety, comfort and wellbeing during the critical post-operative phase.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Clinical Nurse to join our Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) and Recovery team at St John of God Midland Hospital in a permanent part-time role (60 hours per fortnight). In this leadership position, you will deliver high-quality, evidence-based care while supporting and guiding your colleagues to achieve outstanding patient outcomes. Working closely with the Nurse Manager, you will help oversee daily operations, foster a supportive and collaborative team culture, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. The Position

  • Supervises clinical practice of all caregivers taking responsibility for standard of care delivered.
  • Initiates reviews and coordinates care of patients with complex health problems.
  • Serves as a patient advocate, protecting the rights and safety of patients at all times.
  • Actively contributes to the development of clinical policies and procedures in area of specialty.
  • Responsible and accountable for nominated portfolios as designated by Nurse Unit Manager and actively communicate with Nurse Unit Manager regarding updates.
  • Participates in and takes responsibility for the education of other caregivers by conducting formal and informal teaching sessions.
  • Systematically evaluates actions and documents the outcomes of nursing/medical interventions (including monitoring diagnostic results) and report significant anomalies promptly.
  • Ensures documentation of planned nursing care and holistic care plan remains current and regularly evaluate documentation of the multidisciplinary team to determine their compliance to hospital policy.
  • Prioritises departmental workloads using resources appropriately and cost effectively.
  • Assist the Nurse Unit Manager with the submission of annual capital budget and business plans relevant to the Department.
  • Reviews products and equipment and provides documentation and education on evaluation.
  • Assists in developing, implementing and reviewing specific departmental orientation programs with Nurse Unit Manager, acts as a preceptor as required.
  • Conducts Performance reviews and development (PR&D) plans as directed by the Nurse Unit Manager
  • In collaboration with the Nurse Unit Manager, support and coordinate clinical audits to ensure compliance with standards, guidelines, and best practice.
  • Assist Nurse Unit Manager with the analysis of audit findings and work with the team to implement improvement strategies.
  • All other reasonable duties as directed by the relevant Manager/Supervisor.

Position Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will be a Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration and bring significant post-registration experience with the ability to practise confidently at an advanced clinical level. You will have a sound understanding of relevant legislation, professional codes and practice standards, and demonstrate strong clinical leadership skills, including the ability to supervise, guide and delegate effectively within the team. You will be highly organised and proactive, with the ability to plan, assess and support both individual and team performance to ensure safe, high-quality patient care. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with a professional and accountable approach that promotes collaboration and respect within the workplace.

You will be capable of building and maintaining strong relationships with both clinical and operational stakeholders, fostering effective teamwork and a positive culture across the Unit. You will demonstrate confidence in identifying and resolving issues, including the ability to manage conflict constructively and support continuous improvement initiatives. A commitment to quality improvement and patient safety is essential, with a focus on enhancing care standards and operational efficiency. You will be proficient in the use of contemporary clinical computer systems and demonstrate the ability to educate, mentor and support patients, families and caregivers. Above all, you will show a strong commitment to ongoing professional growth, reflective practice and lifelong learning.
