Austral Fisheries Pty Ltd (Austral Fisheries) is one of Australia's largest integrated commercial fishing companies, with vessels operating in Australia's sub-Antarctic Territories, The Northern Prawn Fishery and the Timor Reef Fishery. Whilst we operate from the Sub-Antarctic to the tropics, we are headquartered in Perth, Western Australia and have been in operation for over 45 years.

Austral have an exciting, yet challenging, opportunity for Fishing Hands to join our Northern Finfish team (Timor Reef Fishery) on a full time basis.

As Fishing Hand, you will be required to:

• Comply with Company Drug and Alcohol Testing;
• Support the berthing & unberthing of the vessel when in Port;
• Handle the vessel ropes and winches whilst undertaking shing operations;
• Assist with baiting and hauling of shing traps;
• Sort catch by species;
• Process catch and load into the brine tank;
• Package catch into fish tubs and place into the hold;
• Assist with the unloading of catch when docked;
• Perform routine maintenance activities as directed by the Skipper/ Master;
• Abide by the instructions of the Skipper/ Master and standard operating procedures of the vessel.

Successful candidates will:

• Have at least 1 year recent trap shing experience, evidenced by a signed sea-time or log book;
• Hold a certificate in vessel Safety Training (ideally, STCW95 and or equivalent) consisting of:
• Personal Survival Techniques (PST)
• Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR)
• Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FPFF)
• Security Awareness Training (SAT)
• Elementary First Aid (EFA)- obtained within the last 12 months

Salary

If successful, you will be paid a base salary of $68,864 per annum.
