We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer - Payments to help design and build the next generation of BTC Markets' financial systems - Australia's trusted digital asset exchange, serving over 325,000 customers with more than $23 billion traded.

In this hands-on role, you will develop secure, scalable payments and ledger services across fiat and digital assets, contributing to our event-driven architecture and real-time transaction systems that uphold integrity, resilience and financial-grade reliability.

Working within our .NET and Azure ecosystem, you will deliver high-quality software, contribute to architectural discussions, and model complex domains using DDD principles. You will collaborate closely with product, compliance, and operations teams to ensure our systems meet strict requirements for security, auditability, and regulatory compliance.

As a senior engineer, you will mentor others, promote engineering best practices, and help evolve our shared services – including payment APIS, authentication and ledger components – while championing a security-first, high-ownership engineering culture. 

What You'll Do (but not limited to):

  • Design, build, and enhance BTC Markets' wallet and payment services across fiat and digital assets.

  • Implement event-driven, fault-tolerant transaction flows with strong guarantees around correctness, security, and resilience.

  • Collaborate with product, compliance, DevOps, and security teams to ensure our systems meet strict regulatory and operational standards (ISO 27001, SOC 2, ASIC).

  • Improve service reliability, observability, and maintainability across payment and settlement components.

  • Contribute to technical design discussions and propose scalable, robust solutions to complex financial problems.

  • Mentor mid-level engineers and elevate engineering standards through code reviews, documentation, and best practices.

Who You Are:

  • 8 years of experience in software engineering, ideally within payments, banking, trading, or financial systems.

  • Strong experience in .NET, cloud infrastructure, and distributed or event-driven architectures.

  • Knowledge of financial ledgering, payment orchestration, or wallet/custody systems.

  • Solid understanding of security fundamentals, cryptography basics, and secure system design.

  • Comfortable working within regulated, high-trust environments where accuracy and reliability are paramount.

  • A collaborative engineer who communicates clearly and partners effectively across product, compliance, and security.

Strongly Preferred:

  • Direct experience in payments, banking, trading platforms, or financial systems.

  • Background working in regulated environments with strict audit and compliance requirements.

  • Familiarity with blockchain, digital assets, or DLT technologies.
