The Role:

At John Holland, our Overhead Wiring (OHW) team is committed to delivering the safest and most efficient solution for constructing OHW systems in dynamic and ever-changing environments. We aim for excellence in everything we do, ensuring high-quality outcomes for our partners and clients across the rail infrastructure we build and maintain.

We are currently seeking full time - Traction Overhead Line workers for FIFO and local state-based assignments across NSW, ACT & QLD:

Reporting to the Overhead Wiring Construction Manager, the above roles will support our Rail Services business in maintaining & constructing rail infrastructure as well as the construction of John Holland's Major Projects. There will be a requirement for nightshift and weekend work as required.

Key Responsibilities in The Role:

Responsibilities of the role include but not limited to:

  • Install, inspect, maintain, and repair overhead systems, support structures, and related electrical components for railway electrification.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and work orders related to overhead line systems.
  • Use specialized tools and equipment to perform tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Conduct routine inspections to identify and rectify faults or potential issues in overhead line infrastructure.
  • Assist with the erection and dismantling of overhead line supports and structures.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Coordinate with other team members, engineers, and railway personnel to ensure smooth operation and minimal disruption to railway services.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, inspections, and repairs.
  • Comply with industry standards, government regulations, and company policies related to electrical safety and railway operations.
  • Ability to operate Road Rail MEWP and associated vehicles
  • Perform Pole top and EWP rescue. Perform EWP controlled descent escape, LV panel rescue.

About You:

  • Proven experience as an Overhead Linesperson, in railway electrification, Certificate III Rail Traction.
  • Positive conscientious outlook.
  • Knowledge of overhead line construction, maintenance, and repair techniques.
  • Familiarity with electrical systems, safety procedures, and relevant regulations (e.g., TfNSW, Queensland Rail, Aurizon & Metro Trains).
  • Ability to work at heights and in adverse weather conditions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Good physical fitness and manual dexterity.
  • Valid electrical or construction-related certifications/licenses (if required by local regulations): High Risk Licence (DG,WP,LF,RB,HR truck license).
  • Ability to pass a CAT 1 Medical.
  • Ability to travel and provide own transport.
