1. About Better With Company (BWC)
Better With Company (BWC) is a new family owned, purpose driven WA company established to combat loneliness and social isolation among older Australians and veterans. We currently offer non-clinical companionship and social wellbeing services across homes, hospitals, and aged care settings. As we prepare for registration under the new Aged Care Act (2024–2025), we are expanding our scope to include clinical care services.
Our mission is to foster meaningful human connection and dignity in ageing. With aged care reforms placing greater emphasis on governance, safety, and consumer-centred care, BWC is forming a new Board of Directors to guide our growth, ensure compliance, and uphold our social impact.
2. Opportunity to Join Our Founding Board
We are seeking expressions of interest from individuals who are passionate about improving the lives of older Australians and veterans. This is a unique opportunity to shape the strategic direction and governance of a growing organisation at a pivotal time in aged care reform.
We welcome applications from:
- Experienced board directors seeking a meaningful new appointment.
- Emerging leaders or first-time board members with relevant expertise and a commitment to social impact.
3. Role Overview
As a member of the Board of Directors, you will provide strategic leadership, governance oversight, and ethical stewardship to ensure BWC delivers safe, high-quality, and person-centred services. You will play a key role in guiding the organisation through its accreditation journey and beyond.
4. Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Direction: Shape and approve BWC's strategic plans, policies, and growth initiatives.
- Governance & Risk: Oversee governance frameworks, risk management, and compliance with aged care legislation.
- Quality & Safety: Monitor service quality, consumer feedback, and continuous improvement systems.
- Financial Oversight: Approve budgets, review financial performance, and ensure long-term sustainability.
- Workforce & Culture: Support a values-driven culture that prioritises dignity, inclusion, and wellbeing.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Represent BWC in key forums and strengthen partnerships with government, community, and sector stakeholders.
5. Board Composition & Skills Sought
We are building a diverse and skilled board with a mix of professional and lived experience. We are particularly interested in individuals with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Governance, corporate leadership, or board experience
- Aged care, health, or community services
- Clinical governance and quality systems
- Finance, legal, or risk management
- Consumer or lived experience in ageing, caring, or veteran support
- Technology, innovation, or digital transformation (desirable)
6. Mandatory Requirements
- At least one board member must have clinical care experience.
- At least one board member must hold qualifications in governance or financial management, in line with the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission's standards.
7. Term, Commitment & Remuneration
- Term: Initial appointment of 2–3 years (renewable)
- Time Commitment: Approximately 6–8 board meetings annually
- Remuneration: Year 1: Voluntary (no remuneration as new business), Years 2–3: Sitting fees (full and half-day meetings), Year 3+ (proposed annual fee)
8. Who Should Apply
We encourage applications from individuals who:
- Are committed to improving the lives of older people and veterans
- Bring integrity, curiosity, and a collaborative mindset
- Understand or are willing to learn about aged care governance and reform
- Value diversity, inclusion, and consumer voice in decision-making
We particularly welcome expressions of interest from people with lived experience, First Nations people, culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and those from regional or rural communities.
