What's the role?
Sky News Australia is looking for a Lifestyle Reporter to join its growing team of journalists writing for

The successful candidate will have a sharp news sense, excellent time management skills and have the aptitude to be at the forefront of the biggest breaking news related to the entertainment industry.

The Lifestyle Reporter will be passionate about telling stories which matter to Australians and will be interested in celebrities, royals, fashion, health, beauty, and social media trends.

While standard working hours will be during traditional business hours, Lifestyle Reporters may have to cover events, including red-carpet shoots, which can take place during the evening or on weekends.

Key Responsibilities

• Impeccable sub-editing skills and a proven track-record of breaking news stories
• Ability to train staff to ensure tight deadlines are being met while maintaining the accuracy of editorial content
• Possess mature and seasoned news judgement to help navigate story pitched from the staff and prioritise the most important issues
• Manage a 7-day roster to ensure the biggest news moments are appropriately staffed
• Edit and curate the homepage with the best performing content
• Use WordPress CMS to build stories, assign them to appropriate sections and liaise with social media teams
• Understand the immediacy of the digital and television news environments and how best to leverage broadcast content for digital assets
• Identify newsworthy content from our television channels and ensure this is delivered to our online audience quickly and accurately into the news cycle
• Understand what content works for which platforms and target content specifically for Digital platforms
• Work in a fast-paced team environment which involves liaising with the Digital Video teams, and on-air teams to turn around exclusive content quickly.
• Have the maturity to work with limited supervision while meeting strict publishing targets and deadlines

Who are you?

• Experience in a busy newsroom is ideal and management experience is preferred
• Ability to navigate complicated political discussions
• A positive attitude with enthusiasm for sharing ideas and learning new skills
• Ability to work unsupervised, to tight deadlines and under pressure
• Excellent time management and organisational skills
