Role Summary
Masada College seeks an outstanding Teacher of Design and Technology, Technology Mandatory and iSTEM to inspire students through engaging, innovative, and inquiry-based learning experiences. The successful candidate will deliver a contemporary curriculum for Stages 4, 5 and 6 that caters to a diverse range of learning styles and abilities, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. This role requires a passionate educator who values hands-on, project-based, and child-centred learning approaches, enabling students to explore, design and innovate with confidence.
At Masada College, classroom teachers engage students in critical reflection and inquiry to enhance their knowledge, understanding, and skills, thereby enabling them to participate in and improve their learning effectively. The Teacher of Design and Technology, Technology Mandatory and iSTEM will be committed to creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages curiosity and collaboration. Through the integration of emerging technologies and real-world applications, this role aims to prepare students for future challenges while instilling a lifelong love of learning and innovation.
Key Accountabilities
- Demonstrate proven success as a classroom teacher in DAT/TAS, with experience engaging diverse student groups using effective methodologies.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging learning programs aligned with the NSW curriculum, incorporating differentiated strategies to meet the diverse needs of learners.
- Organise and coordinate school events such as the Design and Technology Exhibition, incursions, and excursions to enrich student learning experiences.
- Show flexibility to teach in additional Key Learning Areas as required, contributing to the school's broader educational goals.
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress, behaviour, and achievements through reports, meetings, and other channels.
- Actively support school-wide initiatives, policies, and extracurricular programs, including professional development opportunities.
- Collaborate with year patrons and special education staff to support students requiring differentiated approaches or individualised education plans.
- Attend and contribute to after-school events, such as concerts and parent evenings, to build relationships with students, colleagues, and the school community.
- Drive excellence in TAS and iSTEM education by fostering independent and creative thinking through innovative teaching strategies and student-led projects.
- Maintain and develop professional knowledge of TAS and iSTEM education trends, emerging technologies, curricular requirements and syllabus updates through ongoing learning.
- Design and implement assessment strategies to evaluate student progress in TAS and iSTEM, providing timely and constructive feedback to support growth.
- Integrate current technology and digital tools into TAS and iSTEM teaching to enhance engagement and prepare students for modern TAS and iSTEM practices.
- Collaborate with colleagues across departments to integrate DAT/TAS into interdisciplinary projects or school-wide initiatives.
- Support student well-being by leveraging TAS and iSTEM to foster social-emotional learning and a positive classroom environment.
- Work with the TAS assistant to ensure smooth operation of the workshop space.
- Liaise with Workshop Assistant regarding the ordering of materials.
- Responsible for the preparation of teaching materials and equipment for classroom and practical lessons.
- Ensure WHS standards in practical workshops are upheld at all times.
- Operate specialist equipment such as table saw, laser cutters, 3D printers and CAD/CAM machines.
Specific requirements
- A working knowledge and understanding of TAS equipment, materials and chemicals, as well as the WHS issues pertaining to these.
- Experience in the use of a wide range of commonly used hand tools, portable power tools, fixed machinery and clean technologies such as 3D printers, Laser cutters, Yeti and MDX50 Roland and associated computer software to operate.
- Strong knowledge of WHS policies, practices and procedures, specific to workshop environments.
- Good organisational and administrative skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office, OnGuard, Adobe suite, and associated computer programs to run our clean technologies.
- A willingness to work as a member of a team, especially communicating effectively with staff and students.
- Ability to organise, prioritise and coordinate work.
- Collaborate in team-building processes within the TAS Faculty.
- Assist in developing effective communication links within the College community.
- Provide support to professional colleagues.
- Contribute to the provision of a welcoming atmosphere to those who use the TAS workshops and facilities.
