About the TeamOur Operations team works with a diverse customer base to support several nationally significant supply chains. With management responsibility spanning across five states, our 8,500km rail network is used to transport bulk products, passenger and general freight, including steel and a vast array of consumer items such as groceries, electrical goods and other items for both import and export markets.

The Operations teams work within several complex and challenging environments, including some of the busiest rail corridors in Australia to deliver safe, efficient and sustainable service delivery outcomes for its customers, stakeholders and the community.

About the OpportunityTo review, plan and undertake the maintenance, repair and upgrade of electrical and electronic equipment, apparatus, systems and fixtures associated with mobile plant, equipment and vehicles utilised in the railway environment. Operate plant & equipment as required to facilitate such works and provide back-up leave relief to the heavy weight rail bound plant operating teams.

Responsibilities of the role include, but not limited to:

  • Inspect, maintain, repair, upgrade and overhaul equipment and undertake electrical testing and repairs using a variety of testing equipment, meters, powered and non-powered tools and equipment.
  • Install new electrical and electronic equipment and electric wiring according to the relevant electrical codes, standards and company policies.
  • Undertake field service work and workshop repairs / duties as instructed.
  • Maintain and repair electrical and electronic systems for project installations and equipment.
  • Assist plant mechanics and field technicians with fault diagnosis and repair.
  • Assist in the ongoing management of inventory plant spares.
  • Develop the trade skills and knowledge of apprentices through mentoring, coaching and education in an inclusive environment.
  • Work safely and cooperatively.
  • Perform all work in compliance with applicable codes, standards, safety and environment regulations.
  • Participate in projects and undertake other duties as requested.

What do we want from you?Essential:

  • Auto Electrical Trade Certificate relevant to the position (or equivalent).
  • Experience with electro-hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and electronic systems.
  • Experience in maintaining heavy rail/earthmoving equipment.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Dedicated commitment to Workplace Health and Safety.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Holder of a Class C drivers License.
  • Hold a current forklift license.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of rail safe-working systems and principles.
  • HR drivers licence.
  • Electrical trade license.
  • Air Conditioning / refrigeration license.
